I kind of understand... but it really depends on how you look at the pairing.

It's the way the comic presented the pair of them - Sally hated herself for the compassion she grew to feel toward him. Not had right away, but over the years, grew into. I don't think she fully realized the extent until the last few pages of the graphic novel, when she finally cries for him. And as far as Eddie goes - I think that it took him quite a while to see the 'error of his ways', to put it kindly. He's still a horrible person, for all that he's done, and I think that his only redeeming qualities other than his running-drunk-to-Moloch scene are IN his relationships with both Sally and Laurie. He wanted to see his daughter because it was Sally's daughter, too - I doubt that if he knocked up any one else, he wouldn't care in the slightest. Sally seems to be the only woman he's felt any remorse for putting in such a situation, and it's clear at the end of the day that he's still just as infatuated with her as he was when he was a teenager.

When you look at it from the movie's perspective, I completely understand the loss of faith, same with some of the fandom. Fangirls tend to forget the unhealthy, negative qualities of the relationship.

106 - OMG, Starlight Crystal! I remember that book! That was awesome. A lot of Pike's stuff was killer, but the covers WERE kind of... er, "off."

108 - I want a transcript of that conversation. It sounds awesome, and were it a fic, I might very well read it. Does Gotham have a hidden Stargate, I wonder? (IS IT IN THE BATCAVE!?!?)

139 - Saying that any character (short of one who is canonically a control-freak and obsessive; I dunno if that Watchmen guy is: I'm not in the fandom) is the Edward to someone else's Bella/Carlisle/whomever is like saying "He's a neutered fake sparkly vampire." A character can be AWESOME as a vampire, which is why it's a cliche in so many fandoms, but vampire!character ≠ Edward!clone. Seriously, Meyerpires aren't even COOL vampires. Everything that makes the vampire archetype cool, they don't have. So why would you model a character into that form? It's like destroying what they have and trying to paste the pieces back together with glitter glue.
