That's fair. But it's not just that the characters are canonically het. It feels like the whole narrative is set up that way. I mean - for example, there are plenty of stories where all the characters are nominally het, but where most of the meat of the story and the deepest relationships are the relationships between the male characters, while love interests and female characters are presented perfunctorily or not at all.

That's really not the case in WOT. Love interests and romantic drama is a big part of every character's storyline and Jordan devotes significant time to those romantic relationships, even ones involving side characters. And those romantic relationships tend to become defining parts of those characters.
