For Torvald to recognize that Nora was playing a role,he'd have had to comprehend that she WAS a real person, rather than a toy and accessory that was there to be auxiliary to his life...I never got the impression that he was interested in comprehending that (I don't like Torvald 😅)

To be fair to him, he doesn't seem to look outside his own role, either. He's the faithful husband, and that's what he's supposed to be. (It kinda reminds me of some of the stuff I've seen in Japanese media, with the salaryman who performs his role but neglects his wife.)
