It's funny because a lot of old school noirs are very brightly lit, but it's still absolutely clear that it's dark within the setting the movie. Someone mentioned film v. digital and yeah, I do think that's part of it.

It's so weird to me, though, like. Surely it has to be possible to find a way using digital to get the same effects that you can get with film? Have people just not figured out how to do it yet?

I guessing that it's a cost thing. they probably could figure it out, but would doing it cost less than just using film in the first place?
