glad it's over

hoping that after the chaos and memes subside there'll be an opportunity for reflection about the trial and its wider implications (including but not limited to: celebrity culture, the court of public opinion, the ability of abuse victims to speak, cancel culture, the acknowledgement of men as abuse victims, etc)

concerned that the chaos and memes aren't going to subside until one or other of them actually dies

Same here. I'm also hoping for acknowledgement that sometimes a relationship can be mutually abusive, and both parties behave horribly.

i've already seen some people trying to argue that there's no such thing as "mutual abuse", there's only abuse and self-defence (or worse, "reactive abuse")

which is clearly utter bollocks

Yep.

how is it bollocks? In order to be abused, one person has to have power (be it physical, economical, etc) over another. It's impossible for it to be mutual. more than likely the one who's being abused tries to defend themself and yet other people deem them as being just as bad for fighting back and not simply taking it.
