Ooof, I get why this is a secret and I have to say that it isn’t helping me not judge Real Person Fic in general.

OP

The thing is it wasn't even RPF! It was Pirates of the Caribbean fic!!! I still don't know why tf the author decided to include Randy Orton! Lol. I do hope she's okay.

It was also my first exposure to RPF, and one of the first FICS I read, so you can imagine my early teenage confusion.

Whenever I have read RPF, usually actors, I tend to see it as a character, not the actual person (personally, it would be weird and I really don't know what Actor A is really like as a person). So if I'm reading a Jake Gyllenhaal fic, I never read it as this is actually Jake, I read it more as "this is an OC with the likeness and name of JG"..apply to any RPF..but I'm sure others may read it differently.

That's so weird! I would have been very confused stumbling across that fic.

And yeah, I'm trying to remember that most RPF readers and writers probably fully understand that the RPF version doesn't reflect the actual person -- there are just some very vocal/visible tin-hatters who seem to believe in secret slash theories. So I'm working on not judging all RPF fans by that minority.

Like I have so many feelings about this, but I /have/ to say that it isn't RPF if only by technicality. Like, very very loose technical standards, but a techncal standard all the same.
... is what I told myself when I found out my two fav wrestlers have an interesting history. I curiously searched for content, and while the romance themed clips and images didn't bother me much since half of it was actually just me trying to figure out what their history actually was. That technicality ABRUPTLY snapped when it came to seeing fanfic though. I couldn't click on a single one, and the more I looked the more deeply uncomfortable I became as I have a serious issue with RPF myself. There is such a fine, razors edge thin, line between their personal and personified lives, that just realizing that had me stop watching it altogether for the longest time.

I was obsessed with WWE as soon as I randomly caught an episode during Covid where I became completely fascinated that without an audience the wrestlers speech was more similar to a modern Shakespearean soliloquy (okay not really, but it was enchanting nonetheless) and decided to give it a shot. I completely fell in love with it if only because found it to be both cutely nonsensical and hilariously entertaining.

Looking up the history of some of my fav people (was seriously confusing tbh) left me curious for more as I discovered two of my faves have past, so I began digging deeper and deeper, and immediately (to this day) with I hadn't. Fans can be super weird and history isn't always fun basically;; So I completely feel ya here.
