To be honest I think it's a lot harder to cast people on Taskmaster than people realize. Even in the British show, where the tone and vibe of the show is well-established, there's been plenty of competitors who don't get the point and the humor of the show or stay too much in their pre-established persona. So it's not really surprising that this would be hit-or-miss when translating to other countries. And I doubt all of the other international versions have been successful either.

100% this. Some of the original show line-ups have looked amazing on paper but not really worked when the reality has been brought to life. On the other hand, there's UK show line-ups where I've only really known one maybe two of the contestants and all five have just clicked and created great TV.

The pandemic episodes really suffered too because even if I felt like those casts worked well together, the sparse socially distanced studio just changed the whole vibe.

It really is a show that relies on its cast and the rapport between them and Alex (and Greg/the Taskmaster) - doesn't surprise me if international editions struggle when the original can sometimes too. But imo it really creates a mountain to climb if you've not got the Taskmaster right either.
