I was gonna say. If it looked and smelled and tasted fine, it was probably just fine. Generally you'll KNOW when something has gone off.

I've eaten canned goods that were seven years past their date and they were completely fine and edible.

Pretty much this. Most 'out of date' dates are just lawsuit bullshite; our modern food stays fresh (if not delightfully tasty) for a long, long time.

Exactly. Most stuff these days (outside of perishables) is designed to stay good for ages. Now, if it's been opened and exposed to oxygen that's a different story, but as long as it's still sealed? It's probably just fine unless it's obviously funky. (I had a bottle of marinade that went off once and hoo boy I knew it the moment I opened it up because it did not smell right at all.)

Oooohhh, seven years past sell-by date? *grimaces* I'd never do that- unless I literally was starving. I'd just think it would cause me to get the debilitating shits or just kill me.

As long as the can is intact, canned goods last indefinitely. Seriously, that trope of the underground bunker full of a lifetime supply of canned food is based on a real thing.
