How Are you doing?

(Anonymous) 2022-06-13 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the person who ate out of date food yesterday and only had to deal with two rounds of but explosions; but otherwise survived :D

Also I found out that if i write fics on DW and copy/paste it onto AO3 I don't hae to do as much formatting as I would copying from a document, so great day so far!

Glad you’re doing well, anon! I took a day off work for no reason (really just wanted a three day weekend) and I’m feeling really good and well-rested.

I got about an hour to an hour and a half of sleep last night. Not sure why, just couldn't sleep. Really exhausted now.

It is 5:40 here and I'm probably going to go to bed at 6. So tired. Right now I'm just laying in bed with my ear plugs in because the family has the tv on, and I want quiet. Kitty is here with me, being her usual adorable self. She agrees with me that it is sleep time.

Mostly okay, just waiting around for it to get dark (and therefore cooler) so I can do some stuff I need to do outside, and trying to do some chores inside in between being distracted by YouTube and Reddit.

I'm also annoyed because my newest ship is a rarepair, there's not much fic, and literally all of it involves psychological/mental abuse and/or noncon, which I'm not into, and I just can't make myself read it. The pairing is so fluffy and adorable in canon so I guess some people want something different, but I just want *more* of what made me like them in the first place. I guess my options are either write some myself or just rewatch their scenes for about the 100th time lol.

Honestly? Very pissed off at the memory of an ex-friend. You know when you think "whew, how did I put myself through that shit for long"? Yeah.

No food in the fridge, too lazy to go grocery shopping. Still a bit sick ... Other than that, happy. Got some tickets for a concert and I expect to have some time to work on fandom stuff... soon. All is well

Glad you came through it okay!

...I am having a bad pain day and also dehydrated and overheated but too nauseated to drink anything, and my legs are aching from accidentally riding 13.5km yesterday on the bike when they were already aching before I even got on the bike.

But I did get ten hours of work in towards my first 40 hour work week in about 12 years, and may or may not have finished the first draft of the current WIP that I'm getting a lot of encouragement for on Twitter. And a thunderstorm just rolled up, and it's time for me to feed my bunnies which means I have an excuse to go look at bunnies repeatedly popping up on their hind legs and dancing around my feet.

I am a bit annoyed at how much I sleep. It's not noticeably bad, just an hour or so past my normal sleep schedule. But getting too frequent to ignore.

Travel modes

[personal profile] philstar22 2022-06-13 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
What travel modes do you enjoy? What do you hate? What is your absolute favorite way to travel?

While cars aren't my fave, I am pretty okay driving. The two modes of transport I love, though, are trains and boats. Trains edge out just a little as my top fave.

The one way of travelling I hate is planes (I'd probably hate helicopters or any other air travel mode if I tried that too). Due to the combo of vertigo and a fear of heights (probably caused by said vertigo), flying is really miserable for me. If there is another option for travel that is feasible, I will always choose that over flying.

Even though they’re slow as hell here, I love traveling by train. I just like spacing out, staring at all the scenery passing by, and making up stories in my head. I’m fine with cars as long as I’m not the one driving ‘cause I hate to drive. I’m afraid of traveling by planes and boats. I have an irrational fear that the plane will explode or the boat will sink.

I get travel sick on cars and bus journeys that last over an hour, so they're my least favourite. If I had endless amounts of money I would say by boat - me and my friend got to do the tourist thing and travel to central London by boat along the Thames, which was fun :) They've been trying to get people to use it more as daily transport, but yeah its pricy.
So my second best is the train. I've never been sick on a train and its perfect when its long and I can just listen to music the whole time.

I go back and forth on flying. There have been times in my life when I've really enjoyed it as a mode of transport, honestly. and there have been times where it's been really awful, and where I have major anxiety about turbulence and safety. I don't know what makes the difference.

Hate driving. I didn't learn until I was 28 because I was terrified of driving. I still can, but hate it. I do enjoy being a passenger though!

I've only ridden on a train twice but I enjoyed it a ton.

I actually love flying. Having pre-check definitely helps! Makes it less miserable.

Every time I've used public transportation in cities I've visited, I've LOVED IT. Both subways and buses. My goal is to move to a city with good public transportation so I never have to drive again.

I love road trips, boats are cool, and flying is my least favorite but I don't HATE it. I've never traveled by train, but it sounds fun!

my fave would probably be being driven by a really good friend. A long time ago I loved plane travel but that was before 9/11. I also like trains, I used to visit my bestie by Amtrak all the time and it was a route with beautiful scenery and I would take yummy takeout food and books and my headphones with music and just really enjoy it. (It was also less expensive than it would have been if I had bought gas and driven!)

Literally the only way I seem to be able to travel without motion sickness is by car and only if I'm driving, and only if I don't eat or drink for about a day beforehand and happen to have a good day on the day I need to drive.

Flying is the worst though, and I will gladly take an 8 hour car trip over a 1 hour flight as long as I can drive and not eat for a day beforehand.

I love trains. The last time I was overseas I went from London to Edinburgh by train and it was such an experience and relaxing ride. I'm so disappointed there's none that run where I live that aren't heritage or only go from one place to another and not around the state.

My least favourite is planes, due to my anxiety and fear of heights. Which absolutely sucks because Australia is 20+ hours from anywhere in the world.

I hate and despise flying, always have. Everything about sucks. Plus, since I was a kid I get horrible motion sickness, so driving to the airport, riding in the jitney from long-term parking, getting on the plane, jitney to the rental car, then rental to our destination was *torture*.

Only made slightly better in my early 20s by a Scopolamine patch. I get motion sickness unless I'm driving, so passenger in car, bus, or boat is out (unless i'm on drugs), and even get motion sickness driving if the road is really hilly or twisty.

Basically, I wish I could walk everywhere, or someone would freakin' invent teleportation already.

I really like trains. Pre-covid my family went on a vacation to Scotland and we traveled by train. I had brought a bunch of fanfic to read on the various trips - ended up spending all of my time admiring the scenery go by.

I would love flying, but I'm poor and 5'11''. Not a comfortable combo for flying.

Re: Travel modes

(Anonymous) 2022-06-14 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Air travel isn't really travel. You go and sit in an uncomfortable room for a while and when you come out you're in a different place. It's like the Star Trek transporter but it takes way longer and there might be pretzels.

Hmm.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-14 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Driving can be good, bad, or okay, but depends a lot on traffic (I don't really ever want to drive again in Washington, DC, if I can help it).

I don't really like buses much.

I like the flying part of flying, but I dislike a lot of stuff around commercial flight - the really inefficient lines, hauling your luggage around with you, the number of people and seats crammed in most planes, the TSA and the mind-boggling arbitrariness of their rules. So, if I was on a chartered business jet, I think that would be awesome.

The trains in the UK were pretty nice.

I thought both the Metro and the Underground were decent.

I really liked the Disney Monorail, but it's been a while.

I like the giant golf carts they often use for tours - they are quiet, faster than walking but not too fast, very open so you don't feel top enclosed.

Small motorboats are too loud for me.

Ferries are alright, though loading and unloading can be a pain.

Sky cable cars are pretty smooth, but I'm a little afraid of heights, so I can't fully enjoy them because I think too much how high up they are.

Not a huge fan of horses, but they're alright to ride at a leisurely pace as long as the saddle is okay.

Like everyone else, I do love trains.

I also love walking. I always wanted to walk the long distance footpaths in Europe, especially the one that runs Sweden to Italy.

Planes scare me. Helicopters don't, weirdly, despite being statistically more dangerous.
