I hope you’ll be able to find something in fandom to feel excited about soon! I went a few years without really being excited about fandom, but then I found a new ship and I’m having fun writing fic for them.

Same here. I am in the same boat. I am jonesing for another fandom and have yet to find one that excites me. There are some animes that haven't excited me like "Jujutsu Kaisen" and Star Wars made me feel down because of the fanbase and the vitriol over Disney's Star Wars and its canon (especially how people hated the sequels) vs the original 1977-2005 films/Clone Wars series/Expanded Universe novels. Even video games I haven't played or jumped into that are making me feel that excitement again (truth be told, I don't care for the Resident Evil 4 Remake and I didn't jump with glee, and this is coming from someone who loved Resident Evil since the 2nd one back in 1998. Same with Pokemon. I've stopped after Black/White and it's incredible how people hated Black/White and its 2nd game.).

I didn't realize I was just doing fandom out of habit until I got into Kinnporsche. I'm feeling excited and hyper-focused on a fandom for the first time in a year.

I can still get excited about media but find myself unexcited about fandom other than reading fic for certain things (and it's not all the media I'm excited about, just a small subset and usually shipping-related). Fandom and me just kind of went separate ways and we don't have the BBoard and LJ-style fandom discussions that I used to love. I've made my peace with tumblr but it's not the same.

In the last fandom I was obsessed about, there was news about a serial abuser in the movie's crew. The fandom's lackluster reaction to said news - about ACTUAL ABUSE towards ACTUAL PEOPLE made me lost any respect I had for that fandom's opinions on anything. They would screech about how the movie characters were treated poorly, write endless essays about their love life (bisexuality), but barely said a word in the face of ACTUAL EVIL.

After that, I haven't been able to take any fandom seriously, because the baseline is the same with every one of them: full of sound and fury, signifying very little. What good is hollow virtue signaling, if you won't stand up to ACTUAL VICTIMS? The fictional ones don't count, they're not real. That's just you being in love with your own emotions, and not being able to see past them.

As ranty as this comment might sound, I'm actually better for it. Being able to see fandom from a distance is the best thing that happened to my mental health. It helped me to step out of my own head. Fandom is just hot air, real people are what matter. <3

Yeah I miss being completely immersed in and obsessed with a fandom; I have non fandom hyperfixations (I spend so much $$$ on plants holy shit) but it's not the same.

I've had any number of things I enjoy enough to read the occasional fic for, but only two fandoms over 28 years reached the "omg anon will you shut the fuck up about fandom X or at least talk about anything else?" level, and I sustained that fever pitch excitement for 5-6 years for both and still enjoy them now.

I don't feel like depression enters in to it for me, but I wish whatever hindbrain processes govern how hard I fangirl were less inscrutible. It's like feeding a picky eater; I keep thinking I've found a likely candidate and my brain goes "eh, it's all right, I guess."

So right now instead of reading about my OTPs I'm looking at greenhouse kits and rare tropical fruit trees online. No, brain, you don't need a $10,000 greenhouse; that's 1/4 your pre-tax yearly salary and where the fuck would you put it?

I have high hopes of fixating on the Netflix Sandman; I love the graphic novels.

I know it’s a huge no-no to express this opinion (especially because Gerard has had issues with eating disorders), but honestly, I agree. Plus he sounds way better now than he did during the reunion show when he was a little bigger. Also agree about Frank, but Mikey and Ray look real good to me too.

Also I found out that if i write fics on DW and copy/paste it onto AO3 I don't hae to do as much formatting as I would copying from a document, so great day so far!

I notice that the flanderizing of ships in general seems to be alot worse, maybe its just cause it spreads around easier now? Or maybe because half of fancontent is now produced by creatively-bankrupt teenagers that don't know how to write. I feel like fandom in general has gotten more...lazy, I guess?

Flanderised ships have been around for a looooooong time. It can be tricky to compare, because mostly when we think back to the past, we remember the things we enjoyed.

But I do also remember some godawful twee tropey 'character' dynamics from ten or twenty or so years back whenever some new fandom got popular.
