All things considered, everything does pretty much line up okay. It was only the power-fantasy fans who found their expectations upset, and fuck those guys anyway. I think it was the best SW spin off so far.

Yeah, SW has never made complete sense. Not just the continuity stuff, but in general. You try explaining ANH to someone who's never seen it, and it'll sound just as ridiculous as anything from the PT, ST, (animated) shows, you name it. It's part of its charm!

SW certainly does the retconning thing with gusto. But maybe I'm just not a big enough SW nerd... I don't think Obi-Wan Kenobi messes things up really?

(spoilers thru ep 5) My biggest peeve was how when Ben and Vader meet in ANH, there's that whole "last time we met, I was the student" thing... but I feel like the flashbacks remedied that, with Obi-Wan's "you'll always be a Padawan until you finally GET this" remark. It's a perfect twist on "from a certain point of view"! And I'm so used to them messing with the canon at this point that I don't really care much anymore. I'm desensitized. Just... I do love it when they manage to fold things in that make it make sense in a new way.

Learner, not student. It is an important word difference. He was a learner of the Jedi way, and now Vader is still learning the dark way, but he is a master of neither and he knows it. And that burns him worse than the lava does, because for all the talk of him being the chosen one, Anakin is just another mediocre white guy with white entitlement syndrome.

Anakin always sucked at trash talking, he just was never subtle enough for it to land properly. He thought bluster and threats were trash talk instead of just eye roll provoking.

IMO, to say the show is perfect is an overstatement.
