All things considered, everything does pretty much line up okay. It was only the power-fantasy fans who found their expectations upset, and fuck those guys anyway. I think it was the best SW spin off so far.

Ugh, I gave up Criminal Minds around Season 7, but JJ/Reid was my NOTP and I actually really liked Will too. I can't believe the show decided to go there in the last season because I would have thought all the JJ/Reid shippers would have abandoned 'ship by then.

I can see how this trope could be badly done, but the only one I've read was written by an author who had actually spent time in an asylum. It was written very well, in character, and the details were chilling.

No doubt there are people out there who would still denounce that as problematic though.

Hurt/comfort, rape, incest.

'Enjoy' isn't quite the right word though. I read them for the emotional fall out around those things. I have found them very cathartic at various stages of my life, and dark fic has helped me work through a lot of my own past trauma.

Increased representation and more general acceptance of LGBTQ+. That's about it. The rest of the world is a burning hellscape.

Yeah, SW has never made complete sense. Not just the continuity stuff, but in general. You try explaining ANH to someone who's never seen it, and it'll sound just as ridiculous as anything from the PT, ST, (animated) shows, you name it. It's part of its charm!
