Haha man do I feel this. The ship that I'm currently completely obsessed with is a rarepair and it's so frustrating. There's only a handful of fic and except for one (that's way too short!), it's basically all PWP (do people still use that term anymore? I'm now wondering if it means I'm old haha). I mean, on one hand I totally get it because they have more chemistry than any pairing I've ever seen in my entire goddamn life and are scorchingly hot together, but also...I want some plot.

(And this is just my latest rarepair, I don't know why I can never seem to get into the popular ones!)

My current rarepair (outside of my micro-fandoms where it's rare just because I'm the only one writing anything) is SO good, but SO hard to find!

Sometimes they show up as a side pairing, but a couple of times they're the side pairing to my NoTP, or a side pairing in an oc-heavy AU/crossover with focus on shows I don't want to read about, or 'side pairing' amounts to 'mentioned once'... or the fic includes my one big trigger, or they're together but only in a throuple with a character I don't care about... so it narrows down the fics I can actually read with them.

Being primarily interested in rare pairs means that the answer to ‘must I write [interesting scenario you’ve been daydreaming about for days] myself???’ is almost always yes. At least in my experience haha. I’ve had really good luck meeting friends through rare pairs but yes it does suck a bit that as far as fics go they might get one new one a month.

Scoured my rarepair's tag for anything new and read an entire story and its sequel because they were tagged for it and they didn't interact once...

Ugh, I gave up Criminal Minds around Season 7, but JJ/Reid was my NOTP and I actually really liked Will too. I can't believe the show decided to go there in the last season because I would have thought all the JJ/Reid shippers would have abandoned 'ship by then.

I didn't love it, but I also thought that they never did a very good job of writing Will. Concept was great, but much less so the execution. So I suppose it's easier for me to resign myself to it.

I always thought JJ/Reid had such a better energy as siblings or BFFs.

I never liked the last season having JJ reveal romantic feelings for Reid. Not when they could have had JJ use her completely platonic love for Reid in that scene - for goodness sake its not like it would have been the first time someone played up an aspect when facing down an unsub to buy time.

And now with the talk of them renewing Criminal Minds I cannot help but think things are going to be messy if they continue on from the last season.

I'm with you--JJ/Reid has been my notp from the start, even though they were introduced with a 'maybe?', the chemistry never felt romantic between them, and the more familial vibe they settled into worked. And yeah, Will worked! It just feels kind of mean to rip away something happy that JJ already had...

I love her with Will so much I even stopped shipping her with Emily ;)

All things considered, everything does pretty much line up okay. It was only the power-fantasy fans who found their expectations upset, and fuck those guys anyway. I think it was the best SW spin off so far.

I can see how this trope could be badly done, but the only one I've read was written by an author who had actually spent time in an asylum. It was written very well, in character, and the details were chilling.

No doubt there are people out there who would still denounce that as problematic though.

Aww, this is a nice secret, OP. I liked Heartstopper too because it was just so sweet and silly. I'm cautiously looking forward to the next season (I say cautiously because I've read the comics). The show that I wish had been around when I was a teenager is BoJack Horseman 'cause it's where I learned the word asexual. I'd spent almost all my life thinking there was something wrong with me and being scared that somebody would find out that I was broken, but it turned out that there was nothing wrong with me. I was just ace.

I am actually one of the few people who liked RoS. The flaws don't bother me... I think the sequels were a bit of a mess as far as the overall story, but that's what happens when you change direction multiple times? Anyways, yes, I couldn't have asked for a better ending for Kylo. ...Other than to see him live happily ever after with Rey, I guess, but that wouldn't have been very Star Wars-y.
