Even though the number of those who like the new comment system outweigh those that don't, there's still quite a few who are having trouble with the new system. Would it be possible to switch between them every other week or something?

I comment both to secrets and to other people's comments all the time- and I find that the new system makes it much easier to do so by having most of the conversation on one subject concentrated in one place rather than scattered across a dozen pages.

Granted, I'm hardly typical in my F!S habits... even under the old system I was one of the oddballs who not only looked at every secret but read or skimmed almost all of the threads. YMMV, I guess.

That's just dumb. And would be confusing.

The people who don't like it will just comment themselves after the main comment threads. If their comments get ignored in favor of the organized version, tough luck.

[identity profile] seiora.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it would be that confusing. I just tried to think of a method that might work for more people.

I think the new system's great

[identity profile] artemis-archer.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with all of this, it pretty much sums up my thoughts on the new system too

[identity profile] kuromitsu.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. It's just way too much of a hassle to comment, let alone reading others' comments. I come to f!s for some quick and random "snack" not a gourmet dinner that takes hours.

[identity profile] missmorrichan.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really digging the organization of the new system, that's for sure. Having all the comments for one secret in one spot is rather handy!

But on the flipside, like a few others have said, I like being able to see someone's thoughts on multiple secrets at a time, and sometimes while reading the comments I'll notice secrets or whatever that I didn't pay much attention to the first time. You don't really see people chatting in the comments over several similar interests as much, either, since each comment thread is pretty much contained to one fandom, as opposed to reading over someone's individual comment and thinking "Wow, this person likes fandoms x/y/z!". That make sense?

Either way, cheers to trying out new things, technophile! Keeps things fun and exciting, finding out what works and what doesn't :D

Amen on this as well. Thank you.

Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Unfortunately, I seem to be outvoted.

[identity profile] dragoon1940.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. For me, most of the fun of F!S came from trolling through all the comments, hitting refresh, seeing what people were saying, seeing fun icons, hitting up random people with comments because I liked their icon or agreed with them (or disagreed). This way... I just sorta skim the secrets, then bail, because I can't be bothered to expand every last damn thread.

But this is the worst form of government - democracy, so I suppose I'll just live with it.

This is going to sound kinda weird, but the best way I can explain my feelings is that this new system feels cold and impersonal. I liked the old f!s for its spouts of randomness - it gave the place personality. Now, we're just packaging f!s up all nice and tidy in a pretty little package and keeping things organized and blargh...

Ever heard of this situation?

So, you have two uncles. On one side is the penny-pinching, immaculately-pressed-collared-shirt-wearing, dull-as-a-doorknob Uncle Ted. He's neat and organized, obsessive-compulsive, and extremely professional. He seems like he could be a cool guy, but never breaks away from this tradition to relate to your level. Instead, he always stands on a pedestal, someone to look up to, but not completely relate to, because he's not personable... or impersonal... or friendly even. Might even seem like a stuck-up jerk.

And then there's your Uncle Butch. Lazy, unorganized, pot-smoking hippy (not to be insulting). He ain't all that successful, and your parents definitely wouldn't approve of you aspiring to be like him, but he's fun, friendly, and all-around good guy. Always reliable for a good time and many laughs.

This is probably a really bad analogy (and I'm certain I'll have people jumping down my back), but it kinda sums up my feelings. I wanna hang out with Uncle Butch. I'd rather keep Uncle Ted off the side, separate from my fun-times.

Long story short: Let's keep this place more fun, pleasant, and random.

But since I'm in the minority, I guess it doesn't matter.

Ok, here're other reasons why I miss the old format.

See, if I read a comment about one of my secrets, the excitement wasn't "over", because I knew there may or may not be more comments on the following pages. If all the comments are in one thread, it's like "Oh, people said this, this, this, and this about it...ok, move on."
I LIKED the suspense when the comments were scattered throughout the pages...like "OMG SOMEONE COMMENTED!...Ok, now they're commenting on some others....OH THEY COMMENTED ON MINE AGAIN!"

Also, the whole thing about how some secrets I didn't even notice at first, but then I saw interesting comments on while reading the comments for a secret I was originally interested in. Like, when I read a post that comments on a secret I wrote or am interested in, I'll read the other comments while I'm there, and think "Hey, I didn't know about that show, but that's still an interesting point!"

[identity profile] joyciel.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I just think it's easier and faster to comment in the old system. Like I open another window with the comment box open and on another page I look at secrets and comment accordingly. The new system I have to keep scrolling down to comment. And I never found it that tedious to look at all the pages so...

But ah well, I'm clearly out voted lol. C'est la vie~

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/nightcrawler_2_/ 2009-04-11 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'm not getting something, but why can't you do that now? You can always have one window open with a comment box and another for the post itself...

[identity profile] joyciel.livejournal.com 2009-04-11 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
lol yes I can I just meant it's not as fast. Cause I have to scroll down and go to the next page to find each secret, and then I have to open an additional window for each secret. You know?

[identity profile] liltingkricket.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Aw damn. I can't stand the new system at all, I really can't. It's bleak and impersonal and a royal pain in the ass. Finding responses to my own secrets more easily is sort of nice, but it isn't worth the price of having the fun of reading the comments taken away. I already miss the way this place used to feel. And, like I said before, there is NO way I'm going to be able to manually look through every single thread. That would take all night. (Inconvenient on top of sterile. Woo. Awesome.) But I guess we're stuck with this now, so I'll just have to get by reading the regular secrets at the end, at least until they're guilted into keeping to the new system. Damn. :/

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Still hate it like woah. I've already stated why multiple times, and others have pretty much summed it up above anyway.

I gotta say one thing though... I really think it's a bummer that those of us against it post long, well thought-out replies explain why this is truly a BAD IDEA -- while the people in favor apparently just hit the voting button (there are a few exceptions, I know). Can't help but wonder how many of them are trolls who vote just to piss people off, y'know?

[identity profile] ayeayes.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
We won't let you down. :/

well...I guess the people in favour probably don't feel the need to post a long, detailed explanation of why they feel this is the best plan ever omg, you know? they don't really have to convince case (or anyone else, for that matter) of their pov, not if it's a votey thing and they're in the majority

Really? I've actually struck up far more conversations than the old way. Only a small part of that is that it's insanely difficult for me to go through pages and pages of comments since it reloads everything and I have next to no RAM.

[identity profile] kartos.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
I -love- this idea. This means that I can open up any thread I want to see in a separate tab. This is almost to the level of having clickable images to the individual secrets and where to comment to it. It also would kill the silly people making comments after all is said ans done at the end. Yeah, it sucks if you wanna comment on more than one, but if you aren't willing to make a few comment posts, did you really want to comment that badly?

Seeing 'new icons' and sparking up conversations still happens. In fact, I think it's happening more! Are people in here seriously going to bother reading every page and every comment looking for good conversation, even if it's about something they don't know? I really doubt it.

[identity profile] simmy549.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
The new way is definitely more convenient and fast, but hey, I actually kind of enjoyed trawling through ten pages of comments? Nostalgia and all that. Hahaha.

Yup yup. This is exactly how I feel about this.
