I need to know more about this.

So there are various recruitable NPCs in BGII and most of them get a personal sidequest.

Cernd's backstory is that he used to be a city man who parted amicably with his wife and went off to braid his hair with feathers and say a lot of platitudes about nature. (The sugary-soft form of druiding.)

What he didn't know when he left was that his wife was pregnant, and in the years that followed the ex-wife never tells him about such.

When he comes back to visit, the wife is dead and the child is the captive of her abuser lover/next husband/something who is best friends with a lich. CLEARLY THIS IS CERND'S FAULT. And just to make sure the player knows that, multiple NPCs who saw this shitshow going down will tell him that - how horrible he was for abandoning her. (None of them mention what they were doing while a woman they supposedly cared about was making a string of bad choices.)

Also, if you keep him in the party until the end, his epilogue tells you that eventually, after he became Head Druid, his son killed him for some reason.

It just really feels like one of the writers was projecting.

AYRT

Yeah, damn. That's...I hope it was cathartic for that writer.

I used to read fic that would leave me wondering if the writer was okay/had dealt with some kind of abuse in their family...hope that writer's okay

Yeah, I hope so too.
