I named both my cats after hockey players but my daughter has a normal name. I don't feel like those things are the same.

I always figured that if I'd give my kids a fandom name, I'd either pick one that sounded like a regular name (like Mimi or Edward) or make the fandom name their middle name. My friend's kid has a regular first name and a fandom middle name.

There is a pretty big difference in naming your dog Thanos or your turtle Yoda or your parrot Shrek and naming your kid any of those.

I think it's less bad for a dog, though.

Like people call their pets names like Noodle or Mr. Snugglebun and people think it's cute, but kids would get teased relentlessly for that.

Lol, OP.

I always wanted to give my kids fandom names, if I ever have any. Or at least as middle names. There are two characters that I really love and helped me out a lot when I was growing up, they're kind of OGs in my mental harem (but they'll clearly have to retire if I name my kids that). I think more wild names like...Noctus or names from a different culture that aren't really common even there and you're not near that culture at all... those are the kind I'm kinda like ...good luck kid.

I think naming your dtig something like inspector gadget or professor plum is fine.

i do think it's kinda cringe unless there's something in particular that invokes the character. like if you got a scraggly grey long-hair named gandalf, or maybe a mustached cat named poirot, i'd dig that.

but also if you've named your golden retriever steve rogers i'm going to assume you have a live laugh love sign somewhere in your house

Agreed with the others that a dog is totally different than a kid.

Luckily most of the fandom things I'm super into involve regular humans with 'normal'/common enough names so it wouldn't be a huge deal to name a kid after one of them if I had one.

A lot of my pets have had fandom or sports names. My current dog is named after Formula 1 driver. I had a series of cats with baseball player names. None of these animals have ever been embarrassed or resentful about it. I would never do this to a child!

All my cats have fandom names except the one who already had a good name when I adopted her. This was fine until I met a vet with the same name as my cat. He seemed pretty chill about his name, at least. (It was Bilbo.)

This was absolutely my experience, OP! When I first started trying to write sex scenes they were SO difficult, not because of logistics or where limbs go or how to keep track of which characters are doing what even if they have the same pronoun set, but just because it WAS really embarrassing. I write lots of sex scenes now without any trouble, but it took me a few years to get to "not too embarrassed to look at the screen" and a few more after that to get to actually competent. Which doesn't mean you need to just keep going! If it's too awkward and you're not enjoying yourself, don't force yourself to write sex! But if it does feel fun, just also embarrassing, go for it, it absolutely gets easier to write :)
