I feel so awkward and I have to vent it

Today I showed an acquaintance a video that I thought was cool. The problem is, it was also topical (I know, I’m an idiot who shouldn’t ever socialize), and it was a very cringey moment that has stuck with me for the five and a half hours since, even while I was doing things that should have been distracting. The only bright spot is that I didn’t bring it back up after and try to apologize or anything, because I’ve *finally* learned that that just makes things even more awkward.

I just want to forget. Ugh. I don’t think I’ll be over it until the next time I have a positive interaction with that acquaintance, and who knows when that will be. So telling a bunch of anonymous strangers about it is the best thing I can do in the meantime. Maybe this counts as an intrusive thought and will leave me alone now that I’ve told someone what happened. That would be nice.

What does topical mean? (beyond on a topic).

Why is it being political automatically cringey? Unless the person is politically opposite to you (or I guess completely uninterested in politics in general) and you didn't realize it and they got offended? I can't imagine why it would be be cringey otherwise.

I don't think it's cringey; I think it might be a bit of a faux pas under certain circumstances, but definitely not cringey.

Yeah, I can't imagine why it would be cringey but that's the word the OP used so I was a bit confused.
