I also want to point out that the clothes a person is wearing don't matter when it comes to sexual assault or being perved on. I've gotten catcalled in a bulky chin to ankle length coat that fully dissimulated any figure beneath it. /Just as an inb4 (I'm certainly not judging folks for their outfits, I'm just mad I don't allow myself to feel "hot" or cute or whatever

I've honestly never shipped anything in a self-insert way. All my ships are because I can see elements of myself in both of them, but they're also very both very different people from me too, and for most I personally would not want to be in a relationship with either of them. They're right for each other, not me.

If it was a live-action film, I'd be the director or the camera person, not either of the actors.

I'm also not invested at all in whether the relationship is healthy. I like enemies-to-lovers, I like codependent ships, I like forbidden love, all of that.

But yeah, if I noticed a ship had a dynamic too much like my parents, I'd probably nope out too. Not that my parents' relationship is any worse than average, really, but who wants to think about their parents when reading sexy fic?

I'm not sure why it would need to be like self-insert for you to love it. Do you usually only like self-insert? For me generally, I just need to connect with a character in some way to care about them, not necessarily relate to them or identify with them, just have more than a surface emotional response to them.

I just saw ads for a Machine Gun Kelly bio pic or concert thing? I don't listen to his music, but he's always given me the feeling of someone desperately trying to grab people's attention/stay relevant. In a way, with all this attention and what not, it makes me feel like the industry is really trying to make him happen. Or maybe it's just me. I'm not in that scene.

What's your suspected version of stop trying to make fetch happen, Gretchen? Rather, is there a particular artist, show, movie, actor, creator, makeup line, whatever in your sphere that feels like they're being pushed into relevance rather than organically blooming into something or someone that the community as a whole enjoys?

I think you should wear what you want! I do think there's pressure on young women to dress attractive/hot so if you really don't want to, you shouldn't! But if you really do and you just have conditioning that won't let you, that's a good thing to overcome.

I once had someone comment on a chapter of mine to complain that I hadn't tied up a particular loose end that seemed central to the plot.

They commented on chapter 5 of a completed 15 chapter fic. Maybe finish reading the story, or skip to the last chapter or something?

Yeah, this is a bit slut-shame lite, that is true. However, I think you're in the right place for expressing crap opinions, so I'm not going to come for you over it.

For the record, tennis skirts are having a moment and they always have built-in shorts in them--that's actually a big part of the appeal, that you don't have to worry about flashing anyone. Most of these girls you're seeing couple probably do a handstand without any flashing occurring. Personally I find tennis skirts quite sexy, and I love that they let the wearer be sexy and comfy, without having to worry about exposing more than they intended.

Also, the fashion industry has already been trying to make low-rise come back for about a year now, but IDK if they're going to succeed. I think there are too many millennial-age influencers who are just not having it, lol. Either way, I know I will personally be abstaining from any and all low-rise styles. A few more mid-rise options would be a-okay with me, but low-rise can DIAF.

Usually I renew my car registration online, but I found out that you're not able to change your address online (at least in my state, I don't know what it's like elsewhere), so since I just moved I'm going to have to go do it in person. I haven't been in person in years and I'm sooooo not looking forward to it. Also, my license is up for renewal this year and I'm not looking forward to having to get a new picture taken, either. :(

Same. I've always found the idea of self-inserting in a ship to be weird and a little creepy, personally, for exactly the reasons you said. I like ships because I like those two characters together, not because I have any interest in dating either of them. In fact, I usually DON'T want to date either of them.

It's just I grew up wearing a uniform up until I went to college/the whole plaid skirt rolling it up when I was young so it would look cute and gross men trying to catch glimpses/videos underneath the skirts etc etc so I guess I just have feelings and associations about the plaid skirts and not feeling right about wearing it some ten to twelve years later.

And about the lack of a butt or not, that's a little more about me having a little something to sit on so I definitely can't wear that kind of skirt without something underneath lmao

Definitely agree about people being able to wear what they want -- and not be judged for it (like I don't want to think this way and be hater!). There's definitely some conditioning I gotta work through lol. If I ever do/or wear an outfit I find hot (which I plan to, this fall, shoot maybe this summer!), I will post here and hope you see my post, nonnie! Lol

Appreciate you recognizing my haranguing for what it is lol have no where else to share it and I really don't like judging people for their outfits -- I dress like a clown quite often myself.

I didn't know that about tennis skirts, but it makes total sense! I feel better about that now! I also had no idea they were comfortable. Maybe I will try one one day. I still want to try on some biker shorts (but I've been wary and don't wear leggings or tight fitting spandex-y pants since a homeless man once told me "spandex was not my friend" :(((( he may have just been muttering to himself, as this was when spandex was making its big revival about ten years and people started wearing leggings in earnest like it was a 1987 aeróbics class).

Anyway, as a millennial who suffered through the horrors of low rise jeans, I stand with you on all that. I'm really here for hi to mid rise jeans that accent the curve of the waist/flare of the hip before becoming wide legged or just straight legged. It cuts a nice figure, imo!

OP here, no, but for most of my favorite ships I tend to sympathize with one of the characters and be obsessed with the other. It's just a pattern that I happened to notice.

The ones that bother me most is when they've seen a trailer or teaser, work out how the entire series is going to go, then get upset when it does not, in fact, do what they imagined. Imagining it is fine! But complaining about it not being something you made up based on a minute of edited footage is just futile.

For what it's worth I feel you. In my college level school/class, I am one of the oldest there, and I am shocked when gen Y/younger millenials come in wearing skimpy clothes like it's 2000 and Britney is cool again (possibly accurate). All I can think of is: are your parents okay with this? Besides, do you feel comfortable?

Pretty hypocritical of me considering that as soon as I turned 18 and my parents kinda left me to my own devices I started wearing short skirts and small clothes on occasion. Maybe because I regret that phase and despise being looked at in a sexual way, and the 18 year olds are now kids in my brain, I think those hypocritical things lol.
