I just need a break. I thought I could rest a bit during summer, but the whole thing with my mom in hospital is running me down. I feel like I've been doing crisis management for months now.

My Windows laptop has a little thing in the toolbar that displays the weather, which I like, but now it'll also sometimes display a BREAKING NEWS chyron for me to mouse over and look at what the breaking news is. Because, A, it's 2022 so I always assume that if there's breaking news it must be some kind of disaster. And B, it's always something completely useless. Today it was "BREAKING - first images from James Webb Space Telescope." FFS.

You might already know this, but - to turn that off, right-click your taskbar, go to 'news and interests' and select 'turn off'. That should leave the weather but get rid of the 'breaking news'.

I totally get how annoying that is, and how most of the time, the 'breaking news' is neither news nor 'breaking'.

I’m chronically lonely. Making friends doesn’t happen easily, but losing them seems to. I hate my life in general and I don’t see any logical reason to expect it to get any better, and that’s not just post-vacation letdown talking. And I was feeling bad about my weight earlier until an annoying little voice whispered “not everybody gets to eat” and now I feel even worse. And there are a lot of chores I really have to do in the next few days.

Oof, I relate to the friends thing. I'm sorry, anon. I've been missing ex-friends a lot this week and wishing we'd made it work. I don't have any RL friends in the same city as me and I really need to make some, for my (already dodgy) emotional and mental health, but I'm too messed up and insecure to reach out.

I'm sure you know this, but I'm gonna say it anyway: You're allowed to feel bad about things--both trivial and otherwise. Ad your allowed to take your problems seriously, even if someone else might see them as NBD. You're allowed to feel down, or depressed, or sad, or fucking whatever, even if you are the most privileged SOB out there (which it sounds like you're not, anyway). You are allowed to be totally fucked up over even the most first-world-y of problems. You don't have to win the suffering olympics for your pain to be valid. And at the risk of making you feel more guilty (which isn't my intent), I honestly think when we invalidate our own right to struggle and feel fucked up about things, it only makes whatever messiness we have inside us come out even messier in other ways.

I'm really annoyed that I have to use one of my vacation days to go get allergy shots all day Thursday. It sucks that I've used up all my sick days and have to waste a vacation day being miserable and getting shots all day.

I had surgery last week and I have pulled something and an interior stitch has burst through and is sticking out of my abdomen. It hurts and I've run out of painkillers.

The pettiest of complaints, but I keep seeing people wear these very short little tennis or cheerleading type of skirts? Some even plaid in the school uniform style. And it's bothering me.

One, partly because I don't dress like this, I wouldn't let myself, my mother never would have let me leave the house like that and as a grown woman, I still wouldn't feel comfortable leaving like that -- it's not my style and there's always people trying to catch a peek. I know part of me is being a hater -- I won't deny that either. Also, the mini skirts I wear tend to be of stronger, denser, unflappable fabrics, like leather or corduroy.

And the last bit is, if you have ANY kind of something to sit on...this skirt just isn't going to be your friend and I hope you have shorts on underneath. A slight breeze will also likely have you flashing the public. I hope this is not an indicator of the return of low rise jeans. Please. Don't come back.

Tl;Dr: anon is being a hater because she's not letting her inner hoochie out and is getting annoyed by people living their lives in short short skirts. Why don't you just doll yourself up and be the cutie you want to be, anon??? Also fears the return of low rise jeans.

I also want to point out that the clothes a person is wearing don't matter when it comes to sexual assault or being perved on. I've gotten catcalled in a bulky chin to ankle length coat that fully dissimulated any figure beneath it. /Just as an inb4 (I'm certainly not judging folks for their outfits, I'm just mad I don't allow myself to feel "hot" or cute or whatever

Yeah, this is a bit slut-shame lite, that is true. However, I think you're in the right place for expressing crap opinions, so I'm not going to come for you over it.

For the record, tennis skirts are having a moment and they always have built-in shorts in them--that's actually a big part of the appeal, that you don't have to worry about flashing anyone. Most of these girls you're seeing couple probably do a handstand without any flashing occurring. Personally I find tennis skirts quite sexy, and I love that they let the wearer be sexy and comfy, without having to worry about exposing more than they intended.

Also, the fashion industry has already been trying to make low-rise come back for about a year now, but IDK if they're going to succeed. I think there are too many millennial-age influencers who are just not having it, lol. Either way, I know I will personally be abstaining from any and all low-rise styles. A few more mid-rise options would be a-okay with me, but low-rise can DIAF.

I really hate the influx of these super short pleated skirts lately because most of the girls aren’t wearing anything except tiny panties underneath and I don’t think I should have to nearly keep seeing a strangers pussy when I’m out shopping and she decides to walk in front of me.
Indecency is a thing and it’s not “slut shaming” for me to not want to see it in public.
Same with see-through tops literally showing entire nipples and people wearing super tight gym gear with pussy lip outlines to the post office etc eww

Usually I renew my car registration online, but I found out that you're not able to change your address online (at least in my state, I don't know what it's like elsewhere), so since I just moved I'm going to have to go do it in person. I haven't been in person in years and I'm sooooo not looking forward to it. Also, my license is up for renewal this year and I'm not looking forward to having to get a new picture taken, either. :(

(One of the) migraine anon(s) here. Good thing: I recently found out that I DO have (impacted) wisdom teeth, they are all there except for one, which is good (one is missing and I do feel weird jaw pain on that side occasionally but). The bad: the new neurologist sucked so, back to searching. My cousin had already told me that one might suck though. Crazy that the both of us have been struggling with bad migraines and everyone is trying to tell us it's nothing. Sir? WE FEEL PAIN? Are you trying to convince us that we don't? Gotta see more doctors to try to rule out allergies / rhinitis and ear infection still. We march on...

Also, wind noises. Sounds like a cyclone but I saw no alert. WTF.

Work continues to be frustrating and ridiculous. Today, the program manager group-texted all of us two shots of shelves in our supply closet, where we keep things like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc. Like 'look, here, we have this stuff'.

We know? Fuck's sake, that's where we RESUPPLY STUFF FOR THE CLIENTS AND US FROM. You utter fucking pillock.

The first staff meeting in almost a month, she complained about how she had 'so many' texts from us, and phone calls, and we need to just 'make decisions on our own'. Well, lady, first of all: if you have decided that certain decisions or jobs are now on us, rather than on the PM, as they were in the past? You need to make that clear before hand, not whinge about it afterward when WE DON'T KNOW. Also, also? These new people are fucking clueless and they have not been trained enough and they are not DOING THE JOB.
Last but not least - our funding grants DEPEND ON US DOING CERTAIN THINGS. And these things are not being done because you are an epic fucking wanker who won't be told. Holy. Fucking. Gods.

Also, i had to turn down TWO people last week for shelter because we were closed because of COVID and both were desperate and crying on the fucking phone to me and i hate, hate, hate that.
