I'm not sure I understand your point!

I'm glad it wasn't just me. I can't parse this at all, I thought it was just because it is midnight and I need bed that it didn't make sense. I apologise in advance if this doesn't make sense either.

I think it's like this post (https://agentfrostbite.tumblr.com/post/687192951520215040/instant-gratification-culture-has-absolutely):

I think people have truly lost any ability to be patient with storytelling.
‘I don’t understand this’ They’ll explain it if you wait.
‘I don’t like how this episode left things hanging’ There’s a continuation next week.
‘This character is flat’ Wait for them to be fleshed out.
So many of the complaints I see about shows lately are people being confused by things THAT THE SHOW WANTS YOU TO BE CONFUSED BY THATS THE FUN OF MYSTERY AND FORESHADOWING YOU ABSOLUTE GOBLINS THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALSO CONFUSED AND THEYRE GONNA DO A BIG REVEAL AND EXPLANATION LATER IF YOU WOULD JUST FUCKING WAIT

Instant gratification culture has absolutely ruined major parts of storytelling

It happens all the time for fic too. Like, how about you take a step back and let the author tell the story before you start freaking out about how garbage a dangling plot hook is?

I once had someone comment on a chapter of mine to complain that I hadn't tied up a particular loose end that seemed central to the plot.

They commented on chapter 5 of a completed 15 chapter fic. Maybe finish reading the story, or skip to the last chapter or something?

AYRT

Thanks for the explanation! I can't say this is something I see a lot of, but that's probably just the fandoms / fandom spaces I'm in.

AYRT - You're welcome, and I'm glad it was helpful and didn't come across like I was trying to "Well, actually..." you! 😅

OP

Yes, this is what I mean. And it mostly seems to coming from people's favorites not acting in a way that goes with their fandom participation

I don't get it, either.
