Trump is still not anywhere near the level of a, say, Putin, Kim or Xi.

Putin I'll grant you. With Kim or Xi, I'm not sure I agree. I think Trump's shittiness is more relatively consequential than Kim's or Xi's shittiness. If Kim were gone, he would be replaced by a general or something and North Korea would most likely still be a deeply authoritarian dictatorship. If Xi were gone, he would be replaced by another senior Chinese official who would most likely have very similar views and continue to enact basically similar policies. That's not the case with Trump; Trump is a distinctive, unique force on the American political scene who emboldens the far right by his very existence and who governs in a fundamentally different style with different outcomes compared to most of the people who could potentially replace him. Also, the president of America is fundamentally just more consequential than the Supreme Leader of North Korea.

Eh, same goes for Putin, really. And this is more about "evil things they did or caused", not the reality of political succession (I bet there would be an asshole that's similar to Trump just waiting to take his place, too). And just based on that, Trump isn't even in the same ballpark as the others.

(I bet there would be an asshole that's similar to Trump just waiting to take his place, too).

There are plenty of people who'd want to try. There are two big differences though.

one, many of the people who would take his place within the Republican party are more aligned with movement conservatism than Trump is, which means that they'll act in somewhat different ways. Don't get me wrong - mostly they'd still be evil, because they are evil people animated by an evil ideology. But there are a few key issues where Trump is meaningfully worse than regular movement conservatives (basically the "subverting the constitution" stuff and the "being corrupt on a global scale" stuff).

Two, Trump is a celebrity with a ton of media experience and savvy who has a media image and celebrity status built up over the course of decades and an existing cult-like following, and his replacements aren't. So they would be a much less potent political force.
