I've never heard of this game before but he looks super cute! Have you checked to see if there's fic or art for the ship? I assume the game is made for straight guys so there probably isn't much, but it's worth a shot.

A fandom charity exchange. I donated 100$ for a digital photoshoped art, picking a ship that the maker was familiar with and that I was somewhat interested in. Well, I didn't recieve anything.
Also all those scummy game design fund raisers? Screw all fandom activities that require a pre payment. All scam. Zines do not require that much money last I checked unless they hire professional artists. In which case it's not a fan zine anymore.

Genshin allows you to buy currency that you can spend for years to come. It also allows to get money back though they'll block the account permanently. They refunded money to a teenage gamer parents. So that zine should get money back or go to the police at least.

I don’t question the amount of money at all. I’m in an itty bitty fandom (The Terror and related polar explorer miscellania) and our charity zine last year made $14k ($6k to charity with production costs covered).

Not much to add to this, but I do know one of the mods as an irl acquaintance and they're in their late 20's, so not a teen at all.

But yes, it is insane that the thief admitted to spending 27K on Genshin... like damn brah, at least lie and say it went to student loans or something.

I was involved in running a zine that had physical copies and merch, and it raised 23K in two months. 9K of that went to charity in the end (international post is expensive!), but 27K in a popular fandom doesn't seem surprising to me at all.

It wasn't a lie, and it wasn't run by teenagers, either. It was just a case of the finance mod being grossly unprepared to deal with tens of thousands of dollars, which isn't terribly surprising. Just kind of sad, really.

I'm glad that you enjoy them.

Personally, I have a hard time trusting them. I always just feel like, the way that these channels get their viewers, and ultimately make their money, is by being enthusiastic about things. They have a huge incentive to love whatever they watch. So I always fear that they're being insincere or something.

I love Mr Ballen, despite the fact he can be hit and miss at times. I can't even remember the Bell's Canyons story so it must have been very unmemorable. Though when he hits, I find he tends to hit big! The most astonishing video imo is the interrogation where the man turns out to have been shot! I do like his build up and he does keep me watching right till the end... even if the twist is at times disappointing

Looking for Advice on Balancing Support and Self-Protection

I'm a relatively new fandom-based content creator in the YT space, and have paid various people for assistance since I started, mostly through Discord Nitro. When paying folks, I try my best to pay them what I think their contributions are worth, which is often more than they expected - seeing as artists tend to get underpaid, I actively tend to pay higher to compensate, a sort of anti-choosing-beggar approach.

My worry is that, if I continue in this way, I may end up being either taken advantage of or unable TO pay people in short order. Like I said, I'm fairly new to this world; i don't even have consistent pledges on Patreon yet. And while I know you need to spend money to make money, I also need to save money to make it, you know? So does anyone have any recommendations as to how to scale back potential overpayment without going too far back and ending up being a skinflint?
