Favorite candle, go

Mine's Voluspa Spiced Goji Tarocco Orange. I like the 5.5oz ones. They don't tunnel, and the jar is translucent white, so they give off a beautiful glow.

Champagne Toast from Bath and Body Works is my current favorite. It just smells so yummy.

I miss mulberry scented candles. You know, the quality stuff. Yankee used to make one but then stopped.

Favorite item of clothing you own, go.

Probably my Coach leather jacket. I got it half-price. The quality is A+.

All my dresses. I can't pick a favorite because they all make me feel so pretty.

My first thought was "my one legit BTSSB skirt", ironic considering that it never fit me (even at my thinnest my waist isn't THAT thin I have a bigger bone structure than that). But what can I say, I love its aesthetic, 00s light pink sweet lolita is the best.

My boots! I wear them all the time but I try to take care of them, and they still look great after seven years.

What are your non-fandom hobbies?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-22 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I am literally just tossing out stuff so the GC isn't empty, in case anyone is bored. I don't usually start threads down here, so please bear with me if they aren't exactly inspired.

Reading, I guess. I read a lot of books and YA's my favorite genre, but I stay away from the fandom because it gets ugly from time to time. I just read my books and occasionally recommend them to friends and that's it.

Tennis. I'm not actually good enough to play against someone yet, but I'm much better than I was a year ago.

Logic puzzles (hence the thread below this one, lol).

Sampling and collecting fragrances. I used to collect more, but it started to feel wasteful and I was uncomfortable with how much money I was spending, so I mostly switched to sampling fragrances and buying travel sizer or decants of my favorites. It's still not a cheap hobby, but much more affordable than collecting full bottles.

I learned to knit early this year, and was very gung-ho on it for like a month, and then just completely dropped it. My motivations has been all over the place this year. I want to get back into it again, though, and actually stick with it. I've got like 2/3rds of a sweater knitted.

Bonsai. Had a compliment on them just this morning. (This is why I keep them outside the kitchen window.)

Thank you, I am and today's secrets aren't helping.

Like above anon, reading in solitude. Recently, it was poetry, but varies a lot.

The occasional fashion-related hyperfocus. Sometimes it's makeup collecting (lol the wasted makeup, thanks pandemic), accessories, nails, hair, clothes. I love thrifting, actually.

Recently I got into (shopping for) interior decoration. Anything involving visual composition catches my interest. (Yeah, I was that kid who liked to draw and make cute graphics and shit.)

Studying random things. I randomly hyperfocus on different topics and can't get enough of them for a while. Self-care and health (from alternative medicine to biology) topics are frequent, which I probably learned to do as a survival skill ; ; ; also, cultures and languages, history, retro things ...

And I want to say "photography" but I only studied a bit ages ago, and I want to get back into it, update myself on techniques before getting a proper modern camera but am lacking the motivation. Hoping to get back into sewing, too.

... And I suppose podcasts and music are fandom-related so... (though I don't get involved in fandom for either.)

Cooking/baking (haven't been into for a few years, but I think I'm a decent cook/baker)

Clothes sorting/shopping; just got into dressing myself more fashionable/with more thought late last year. I'm a slow learner/poor, and I tend to go for cheaper clothes/2nd hand shopping, so my style evolution is a slow one.
Used to just buy comfy t-shirts (mostly fandom shirts) and jeans/sweats with a couple more "out there" pieces and just sort of dress around that.
I still wear jeans and tees but I put a lot more thought into how my jeans fit me and I sort of hate t-shirts now. They're comfy but I can never find a top that is what I'm looking for: mostly simple, long enough to cover my arms (an insecure area for me) comfortable (most are too short/tight and have a tendency to roll up; I also feel 3/4 sleeve tops are hard to find and sometimes I hate the look/feel of it on me...can't explain it lol), a shirt that isn't too long or too short (being plus size with an average torso makes this so fucking hard)
I think I can rant about every clothing item ever. LOL
It's been fun to think about my body shape and what sort of clothes and styles would best compliment features I like about my body. Found some fun YT videos on fashion and dressing for your body type a couple months ago, I think that's what has made this fun.

Skincare? I've got my routine down OK. Currently shopping for a daily face moisturizer. Have my toner and serum, have a couple sunscreens I like, have a night cream, but my face is feeling drier now so I think I need a daily face cream, toner and serum alone aren't enough. I don't do face/sheet masks as much anymore (wish I had time everyday to dedicate to moisturizing with a sheet mask tbh; is a nice relaxing 20~ minutes where I completely focus on miosturizing my body and face). I don't have great skin (far from) but it does feel nice and I don't break out as much as I used to (being in your 30s and still breaking out 😭), and people often tell me I look young (but I think a lot of that is genetics more than my skincare routine)

Hiking and exploring is probably my number one hobby. Outside of that, dog training, traveling, and running. Unfortunately, can't run anymore do to an ankle injury : (

Do you like puzzles?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-22 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
If so, what kind? And are you good at them?

Re: Do you like puzzles?

Nope. I find them tedious.

What is the most intense reading experience you've ever had?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-22 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Can be anything - fic, novel, web comic. (Not personal texts, letters, or emails though, since that's kind of a whole different beast.)

Why am I like this...or petty vents

(Anonymous) 2022-07-22 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm walking down the street there's a guy -- pretty good looking. Now we've been walking (not in tandem, but we certainly meet at the corner before crossing the street) and me,me!!! I want to say something -- along the lines of I like your face, I'd smile but I have a mask on...etc. and what do I do??? Pretend he doesn't even exist. Wtf. Why am I like this. Just. ARRRRGHJHHJHFJLG.

I've done online dating apps, and I'm not a big fan, buy I will say at least the fact that both parties "swiped right" implied a mutual attraction. Sigh. And a smile is a good way to initiate or indicate interest (I mean sometimes I just smile at people bc I'm in a good mood, but a shy or cheeky smile can relay a bit more). But I can't do that with my mask on, and I'm still trying to figure out how to smile with full metal in my mouth without looking like a carnivorous machine.

Oh well. I'll take solace in imagining he was already married (which he should be so flattered) and that he's likely in a higher economic bracket than me based off the fact he seemed to be getting groceries in bunny/relaxed clothes you'd wear at home or while doing laundry, as we're in an expensive area. He could've aso been available,interested/curious, working at a restaurant nearby, but just didn't say anything. SIGH. lol.
