You don't have to like AO3 if you don't want to, but the specific things that you say here are ridiculously wrong.
pantswarrior: Laguna scratches his head. (huh?)

Yeah... I am wondering if OP is just in a fandom that really is particularly bad at tagging. I've found it exceptionally easy to find whatever I'm looking for every time I've looked at AO3... meanwhile at ff.net sometimes I can't even find fic that I know for a fact is there (sometimes even my own old fic, without chronologically scrolling through several pages of my own profile).

It's why I love AO3 over other sites: the tags, when used well, are super effective.

Sadly, depending on fandom, they're not well-used.

Two of my fandoms have asshole writers who tag every single ship and character even when not present in an attempt to have the fic show up in every god damn search.

Gets right on my tits.

Yep. Some of my fandoms are great about tagging things accurately. Others... do exactly what you just said, or think that if a character shows up for one line that's worthy of tagging the fic with that character's name, which frustrates those of us who are actually trying to look for stories featuring that character.

Ah, see that kind of writer ends up with their User ID in my Hide Annoying Authors skin. (Which is a godsend, it really, really is.)

That's a reportable rule-break. Might take them forever to get to it because there's worse harassment taking priority, but it's helpful to the team to have this flagged.

Some of the canons have been given bad canonical tags by the wranglers, even if they started out with the correct canonical tags. It's such a pain when your tiny fandom is juuust starting to take of. Or indeed at any other time.

It's like lumping all Shakespeare's History plays under Histories, instead of listing them by play. Useful, no?

No.

You've chosen Wattpad and FF.net. If I wanted to hurt you there's nothing I could say that'd hurt you worse that you're hurting yourself. I wish you peace and happiness.

Isn't Wattpad for teens?
