Are there any ships out there that almost, almost work for you but there's just one thing? Whether it's something major or minor, it would be right up your alley if they changed it up a little bit, but it just doesn't work for you as it is. What are those ships and what do you want them to change?

Ron & Hermione from HP. They've got tension in spades and I spotted the ship coming from the second book.

But they're never kind to one another.

I have a lot of problems with other parts of it but, really, it all boils down to that. They're never kind to one another and I just struggle to see a relationship going anywhere good when there's no kindness involved. I know bickering is their thing but... I dunno. They're much nicer to each other in a lot of fic and that's how I prefer them.

I would have shipped Will Randall from Wolf (1994) with everyone had he been played by a different actor. Ever since having seen Heartburn (1986), Jack Nicholson now royally turns me off. Bleh.

I'd be into Aerith/Cloud if Aerith had crossdressed alongside Cloud. Drag king/drag queen dynamic, yes, good.

TeamFourStar opened my eyes to the shipping potential of Tien/Vegeta if only Tien was that snarky in canon. I developed a whole new kink from the Super Saiyan jokes in the Abridged series, that kink being proud arrogant men getting ruthlessly punched down into the ground with nothing but raw biting sarcasm. It just hits different when Tien does it as opposed to say when Frieza, the Androids, or Cell do it.

Dunno if it counts since they’re canon, I think I would’ve liked Akihiko/Haruki from Given if Haruki was the top.

I've been lucky in the case that most of my go-to ships (just based on dynamic alone) have eventually given me that final little thing that makes them fully into one of my many OTP's.

Generally it's a requited interest. Like I can be convinced that one character is absolutely head over heels with another, but even if the two are bff's unless that other character gives some sort of sign that they feel the same way I'm content with them being best friends.
Technically, Ted (Blue Beetle) Kord and Micheal (Booster Gold) Carter of DC Comics fit with this. They actually got cancelled in the ninety's pretty much because their bro-ship could be perceived as romantic or something? (idk exactly, like not really? but the timing was a little to convenient for me with what else they cancelled compared to the content/what people said, for me to not be suspicious) I, personally, cannot see them other than bros. People who know my ships are genuinely flabbergasted when they hear I'm I don't ship them 'cause they're exactly my type. Honestly it isn't even a negative imo, I enjoy them just as much, I just don't think of them as romantic.

I'd definitely be into Reylo if only they'd made Kylo Ren a bit more sympathetic (and a bit less of a sadistic, genocidal pissbaby) in TFA.

Also, I wouldn't actually want Rey to be male (definitely not, I like Rey as she is), but I'm not gonna lie, the ship would work better for me with a male version of Rey--not because I don't like het ships, but because I want Kylo to bottom and sadly pegging just doesn't do it for me.

Possibly Rey could have a force!cock? (No, not a noncon thing; a cock that is a manifestation of The Force.) It'd be fucking wild but I would definitely read it.

Finn x Poe is *so close* to working except Finn spends all his time thinking about Rey and Poe seems closest to BB8.

Watson x Holmes in Sherlock except they don't... idk... like each other very much? They mostly just seem annoyed all the time? I could buy that they love each other but I can't buy that they like each other so I don't want them to be together.

This is more a fannon thing, but any version of Batman x Robin that isn't treated as hugely fucked up leaves me cold. I read one where (I think?) the Flash was telling off Kid Flash for being homophobic for not supporting them and I'm like "No no! KF is the only sane one here, Bruce has known and been his care giver since he was 8 this is really messed up!" And then Inheritance by Devin Grayson that gives their relationship a bdsm vibe. I wanted to fly to NYC and make a scene in the DC lobby I hated it so much. And again, I was a shipper. But yeah, that ship was way more fun before Bruce officially adopted Dick in canon, now it's mostly died off.
