Characters that got screwed over by the adaptation?

Just thinking about how Utterson is rarely featured in Jekyll and Hyde adaptations. I guess it's because the mystery aspect of the book doesn't work anymore. Still sucks considering there's usually a love interest or two added to the story.

I mean the PJO films were in general bad but wiping out the coolest element of the first book by getting rid of Ares is still....I don't even know.

Basically Batman/all the relating characters in all but the Nolan movies and the original animated series... also anyone writing him with a fixation on how dark and gritty they can make him. So that.

I mean I can think of plenty of main characters that were badly written in adaptations, but as for characters who got dropped/don't show up, the Persian got replaced by Madame Giry (who is an entirely different character than her book counterpart) in ALW's Phantom of the Opera.

I hate the Francis Ford Coppola version of Dracula because of how it made Drac/Mina the big romance and sidelined Jonathan. Jonathan, who in the original book says, "To one thing I have made up my mind. If we find out that Mina must be a vampire in the end, then she shall not go into that unknown and terrible land alone." i.e., if Mina gets turned into a vampire, he'll stay in the shadows with her. Like... there's your romance right there, pal. They are capital-d Devoted.

Much as I liked the miniseries version of Catch 22, Clara, Nately's sex worker girlfriend, got raped and murdered in that version. She doesn't in the book, she survives and goes crazy but she doesn't get raped or killed.

Ricki Tarr in the movie of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Went from a capable professional who finds an unexpected human connection to a flat, weepy romantic who loses all sense when he falls in love. Usually I’d be on board for more macho male characters crying, but in this case, they only got there by stripping away much of what made him so interesting in the first place.

Emma's family in Can You Keep a Secret (with the exception of her sweet grandpa) plays a big part in her inferiority complex and her desire to show them that she's not a screw-up is a driving force for her, but they're totally absent in the movie, so Emma's character feels more flat.

Faramir and Elrond. Especially Elrond, who in the books is one of my favorite characters.

To put it bluntly: How do you pee? Yes, you, personally. In as much detail as you're willing to share, what are the steps?

I want to know because a long time ago on here, I asked how toilets worked in countries that don't use toilet paper, because I didn't understand how you could clean up after yourself with water instead of TP and not end up with a big wet spot on your nethers. I didn't get any helpful answers, and most of them were just asking why anyone would end up with a wet spot there. This led me to the conclusion that the way I pee must be very different from the way most people without a penis do it.

So like. What is the normal way to pee (without a penis)?

This is also fandom unrelated, but I wanted to share some thoughts and maybe get help.

So, I am a psychiatric patient and have been for as long as I know myself. I am prone to … assorted mental disturbances. It's not pretty, not fun, not something I wish on anyone. And recently I read a little bit on gnosticism for random reasons, but this paired with my crippling PMS depression and med cold turkey withdrawal effects (because it gave me physical effects during PMS that were unbearable…) made my latent psychosis/epilepsy/idk come back full force and "it's not cool" to be very, very kind (to be more specific last time this happened I had a stroke so I have to keep the anxiety in check).

What do you do when your head gets a little foggy or messy? I realize that going outside helps, but I have been avoiding going outside for the above reasons, so relaxing stuff to do indoors would help.

Tips for Volunteering?

There's this giant crosscountry sporting event coming to my area, (like legit participating in my tiny small-time city) and I don't want to miss it. More than that I want to help out, volunteering where I can, not only to aid, but also to get me back into the focus of being able to work again.
When I brought it up to my sister, she gave me that time-old look that basically translated to 'WTF?' and told me to stop being ridiculous. When I told my parents the same thing, they straight out told me no. That I wouldn't be able to do it. (I'm old enough not to warrant their approval if I do apply, but I may need my mum's car to travel as I could be placed at any location as a volunteer)
While I do have farfetched aspirations at times, and probably the worst track record at being on time/committing to things. I genuinely want to apply. I know I can do it, (I hope), and I can feasibly bike/bus where I need to go if necessary. I just need to know more.

Basically, has anyone done any volunteer work for sporting events before? Can you give any helpful tips/advice?
And for anyone who has volunteered before, how does it work via communication, how stick is it generally?
I can apply online, choosing three preferred types of work, but those are just suggestions, I can be put anywhere. I just fear if worse comes to worse and I do apply and I do fail to show up/preform well, how much am I going to jeopardize the lives of the athletes if I get things wrong? (as this is probably the biggest collective sporting event in my country)

Are there any ships out there that almost, almost work for you but there's just one thing? Whether it's something major or minor, it would be right up your alley if they changed it up a little bit, but it just doesn't work for you as it is. What are those ships and what do you want them to change?

Ron & Hermione from HP. They've got tension in spades and I spotted the ship coming from the second book.

But they're never kind to one another.

I have a lot of problems with other parts of it but, really, it all boils down to that. They're never kind to one another and I just struggle to see a relationship going anywhere good when there's no kindness involved. I know bickering is their thing but... I dunno. They're much nicer to each other in a lot of fic and that's how I prefer them.

I would have shipped Will Randall from Wolf (1994) with everyone had he been played by a different actor. Ever since having seen Heartburn (1986), Jack Nicholson now royally turns me off. Bleh.

I'd be into Aerith/Cloud if Aerith had crossdressed alongside Cloud. Drag king/drag queen dynamic, yes, good.

TeamFourStar opened my eyes to the shipping potential of Tien/Vegeta if only Tien was that snarky in canon. I developed a whole new kink from the Super Saiyan jokes in the Abridged series, that kink being proud arrogant men getting ruthlessly punched down into the ground with nothing but raw biting sarcasm. It just hits different when Tien does it as opposed to say when Frieza, the Androids, or Cell do it.

My aunt died in her sleep either late last night or early this morning and my family and I are all just shell-shocked. Right now I'm just trying to distract myself with comfort food shows that I've seen dozens of times and which can be safely relied upon to not give me more feelings than I can handle at the moment, y'know? I'm still absolutely reeling, though. Like it all just keeps going back and forth between not seeming real and being unbearably real and I straight-up don't know what to do with myself. I guess life is just gonna suck like that for a while. You'd think I'd be used to grief by now, but apparently it doesn't work that way.

Sorry for rambling, but I'm still trying to process everything and this comm has historically been kind and supportive to members who've lost loved ones. For all of our drama and petty little bitch-fights, we're still there for each other when it really matters and that's something I've really come to treasure. I just want you all to know how much I appreciate the kindness I've found here during past moments of grief.

I was going through my fandom archive bookmarks today, on my browser, just seeing what's what after so long, and omg. SO many journals/sites are deleted, purged, 404'd, and just....*gone*.

It's just so crazy. Every single bookmark was once a thriving comm or journal and now....

Makes me want to download and hoard ALL THE THINGS.
