Asks/Advice?

Anyone with questions they want to ask, or advice they want people to share!

TMI question (bathroom stuff) seeking TMI answers

(Anonymous) 2022-07-28 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
To put it bluntly: How do you pee? Yes, you, personally. In as much detail as you're willing to share, what are the steps?

I want to know because a long time ago on here, I asked how toilets worked in countries that don't use toilet paper, because I didn't understand how you could clean up after yourself with water instead of TP and not end up with a big wet spot on your nethers. I didn't get any helpful answers, and most of them were just asking why anyone would end up with a wet spot there. This led me to the conclusion that the way I pee must be very different from the way most people without a penis do it.

So like. What is the normal way to pee (without a penis)?

I pull down my pants and underwear down, I sit down, I urinate and sometimes some poo comes out too, I thoroughly wipe with toilet paper, I pull my pants and underwear back up and then flush the toilet.

... I pull down my underwear, sit on the toilet, pee, clean with toilet paper, throw the toilet paper on a trash bin, pull up my underwear, wash my hands with soap and move on with my life?

Is there any other way?

Like how the other anons mentioned.

When I was a kid I peed sitting backwards on the toilet. Did it for years.

I was homeless for a while and sometimes didn't have access to toilet paper; during that time I'd find an isolated area behind a dumpster or something, squat with my pants down just enough past my thighs so I didn't piss or shit all over myself, and afterwards air dry assuming I wasn't too worried about someone spotting me. Sometimes air drying worked, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes had to deal with being a little damp. You never get used to it but you do learn to live with it when plagued by that level of poverty.

Butters on South Park sits like that to pee. It’s cute.

So you have that nice little shelf for your comic book and your chocolate milk.

Sitting backwards on a toilet is normal for a lot of countries, I was so shocked when I found that out tbh;;

I hope you're doing much better now, I'm sorry you had to endure through that, truly. Growing up, a few of my friends had particularly bad home lives and to avoid them we used to convince each of our parents that we were sleeping over at each others houses on the weekends when we could get away with it. We'd spend two or three nights (four 1/2 was probably the longest) sleeping in a convenient park just to get away from it all, we all had plans on where and how to bath, sleep, drink, or eat, when we finally ran away. But that wasn't how it went, we always had a place to go back to, and I know that our feverish ramblings as children were never realistic in the face of actual homelessness. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be.

IDK why anyone would be confused about your "wet spot" question. If I pee and don't wipe, there is absolutely going to be a bit of wetness (eww). If I pee and then rinse instead of wipe, there is also definitely going to be a wet spot from the water.

I can sort of see the merits of bidets, in that they probably leave one's privates cleaner and "fresher" feeling than wiping. But I'd definitely want to wipe afterward regardless. Maybe if you've got Barbie labia they don't catch much water? But statistically only a fairly small percentage of women have Barbie labia, so...*shrug*.

WTF is a Barbie labia?

This actually sounds familiar tbh;;

Like I know a bidet sprays water after you're done, or it has another seat to clean yourself off at, or something?? (I've never really used one, obviously) And honestly, I hope that's what they mean as I'm not sure where you'd get the water to clean yourself off otherwise?

If there's nothing in a stall and I don't have any tissue on me, then I'll just sit there and bounce a little to dry off? Find a stall to stealth into that does have TP and wipe there.
Technically I guess there isn't enough moisture to actually go through the layers of your clothes, even if you do wash with water? Being shaved down there would help a lot too. idk tbh, I can't quite figure it out myself...

I think that people who tout bidets aren't very specific about how you dry off after. I would definitely need a towel or something (at home) or tp in public to dry off. Because getting clean enough with water (and soap, please, jeez) after you've pee'd or defecated means you're gonna be pretty damp down there.

So I'm gonna assume they have something to dry off with. If not - wow, that sounds amazingly uncomfortable.

Basically how everyone else has mentioned (I was going to mention that you need to kinda push? your bladder? To initiate the stream. But I don't know what that internal action is called.). Then while you're seated (or squatting), use some toilet paper to wipe until dry and clean. If you have baby wipes (don't throw out into toilet please), use for a better clean then pat dry with toilet paper. And if you're lucky enough to have a bidet (I mean the actual appliance, not the hook up under the toilet seat, idk how to use that one), which is wonderful -- facing the water, using a very mild soap, you clean yourself. And yes, you need a towel or something to dry yourself with. Because I'm all of the cases, if you don't dry off, you're gonna have a little wet spot in your underwear where the last drop of urine collects. I always thought that was why people with penises were supposed to do a final "shake" if you will (if I had one, I'd probably use toilet paper lol).

This is also fandom unrelated, but I wanted to share some thoughts and maybe get help.

So, I am a psychiatric patient and have been for as long as I know myself. I am prone to … assorted mental disturbances. It's not pretty, not fun, not something I wish on anyone. And recently I read a little bit on gnosticism for random reasons, but this paired with my crippling PMS depression and med cold turkey withdrawal effects (because it gave me physical effects during PMS that were unbearable…) made my latent psychosis/epilepsy/idk come back full force and "it's not cool" to be very, very kind (to be more specific last time this happened I had a stroke so I have to keep the anxiety in check).

What do you do when your head gets a little foggy or messy? I realize that going outside helps, but I have been avoiding going outside for the above reasons, so relaxing stuff to do indoors would help.

I look for stuff that makes me laugh. I got through a several weeks long depressive episode by binging Horrible Histories over and over. It made my brain shut up enough to stop tormenting me.

Thanks! :) Laughter really is the best medicine.

Sleep is honestly my first thought. It's probably not the most healthy or well thought out advice, but dreaming has always been such an aid to me personally and it's a great way to pass a significant amount of time without being conscious of it... quite literally.

To get the feeling of clearing my head I've recently been playing math quizzes. Just the very simple ones to make me feel like I'm doing something without being too frustrated with not being able to figure things out.

I found this site randomly: (its just timetables basically)
https://www.mathsisfun.com/timestable.html

I searched again and found this: (I haven't used it yet so I'm not sure how well it works tbh, but it has a much larger assortment of games)
https://www.mathgames.com/

If you want a more immersive puzzle type throwback then Chips Challenge is free on Steam: (it's tough, but it brings me back and always gives me a good feeling)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/346850/Chips_Challenge_1/

Of course, these will only work if they suit you. So otherwise, I'd go back to old hobbies you my have packed away somewhere in your house? Like dominos, legos, old console games that still work, knitting, painting, or something of the like?
I hope you feel better soon! Sending you my best wishes! <3

You are right! I have been sleeping pretty much all day, so, sorry for not answering earlier. Oh, I love maths games so I am very thankful, I will try checking them out!! And organizing my house to find old hobbies packed away sounds great too lol. Thanks!!!

Obviously, your mileage may vary (and my mental issues are a bit different from your mental issues), but personally I find that doing things with my hands that require some concentration is very useful for finding a certain level of calm when my brain feels like it isn’t exactly on my side.

I’m into crafts, so things like sewing or collage (with stuff cut from magazines or junk mail) are often my go-to. Sometimes I just take some scrap paper and write out quotes that amuse, comfort, or inspire me.

Sometimes it’s more utilitarian like vacuuming, doing dishes, folding laundry, etc.

If I need some auditory stimulation to keep my brain quiet, I listen to something while I do this, like a podcast or an audiobook (free from my local library!)

Aww, this is amazing. Maybe I could benefit from it yeah. I remember trying to do it during my last "crisis" and bad thoughts assaulted me (... not a handicraft person ... maybe it worsens my anxiety?) but at least I learned to fight back ; Thanks for the tips!

Sleep, if I can. Remind myself to drink some water. Do a quick scan of my environment - is it too cold? too noisy? - and do something about any outside irritations if I can touch them.

If all else fails, curl up under a blanket and listen to an audiobook.

Re: Asks/Advice?

Thanks a lot! This seems to be my brand of dealing with it, too. But I never thought of listening to an audiobook, sounds like a great idea. Thanks!

My go-to solution for everything is hot showers. I sit down inside because too much effort otherwise and then just daydream about random things. Sometimes I cuddle up with a hot water bottle in bed instead, which I also find very soothing (got the idea off of animal rescues offering heating pads to baby animals...)

Tips for Volunteering?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-28 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
There's this giant crosscountry sporting event coming to my area, (like legit participating in my tiny small-time city) and I don't want to miss it. More than that I want to help out, volunteering where I can, not only to aid, but also to get me back into the focus of being able to work again.
When I brought it up to my sister, she gave me that time-old look that basically translated to 'WTF?' and told me to stop being ridiculous. When I told my parents the same thing, they straight out told me no. That I wouldn't be able to do it. (I'm old enough not to warrant their approval if I do apply, but I may need my mum's car to travel as I could be placed at any location as a volunteer)
While I do have farfetched aspirations at times, and probably the worst track record at being on time/committing to things. I genuinely want to apply. I know I can do it, (I hope), and I can feasibly bike/bus where I need to go if necessary. I just need to know more.

Basically, has anyone done any volunteer work for sporting events before? Can you give any helpful tips/advice?
And for anyone who has volunteered before, how does it work via communication, how stick is it generally?
I can apply online, choosing three preferred types of work, but those are just suggestions, I can be put anywhere. I just fear if worse comes to worse and I do apply and I do fail to show up/preform well, how much am I going to jeopardize the lives of the athletes if I get things wrong? (as this is probably the biggest collective sporting event in my country)

The easiest job for a newbie is handing out water cups at rest stops, chances are that someone will be able to give you a lift. Especially since they will be picking up the garbage on the way back too. Volunteer for that. Or just email them, say you want to volunteer for something easy and you need a lift to do it, most events are desperate for any volunteers. It is usually pretty darn easy. Don't worry about flaking out, every volunteer event is used to people flaking out on them. Especially newbies, it is practically expected.

Re: Tips for Volunteering?

I've volunteered at numerous things in the past (never a sports event). If they give you options, indicate which ones you'd actually feel comfortable with doing. Git problems counting/keeping track of numbers? Don't choose cashier or donations collections. Sometimes they'll ask if you have any experience (or translatable) doing something -- look at what you already know you can do and see where that fits. Ultimately they do decide, but a lot of volunteer places take into account your application. And they also provide some kind of instruction/training. They're not just going to stick you out in the cold with no guidance, so don't worry (especially if they're a large well known organization).

I just want to say, good luck! And you can do this! The first step is just trying, taking that first step. I know it can feel so discouraging when people around you are... dubious on your ability to commit and complete something, especially when you're trying to make a change in your track record. But you can and will do this. I know we're strangers, but I believe in you and hope you have fun! Who knows what connections you'll make and people you'll meet! Volunteering is a great experience :)

Please update us!
