I couldn't watch it. I even tried to get through the first episode but couldn't even manage it. I love how they kept Cat, she's amazing, and Twitch has always been one of my all time favourites, but even with Lithgow gone (who's horrifically homophobic/small minded comments is what caused me to drop the program in the first place) it just wasn't enough. (it didn't help that I hated that Morrison guy even before he tried to get with one of the dancers and then play the victim or whatever the hell that was all about)

I'm not surprised that there's not much talent on the season though, none of the judges are actually trained/particularly talented dancers themselves. (aside from Twitch, but that's not enough tbh) And with the shit Morrison pulled I doubt that helped things at all. (ntm COVID/vaccines may have been an issue)
They really should have just gone with something altogether new. The shows been faltering for years and I doubt it has a good reputation in the dance world either. Getting rid of one of the top talents is also a classic example of them trying to get people to talk about it, but it really just makes them look like they have no idea what they're doing and it's just a bad look altogether.

(getting rid of the dance for your life thing is probably the worst though.)

I don't watch this show, but someone getting criticized for being too technically good pretty much always pisses me off immensely. It's almost always just some ass-pull nonsense that the producers have decided sounds good.

In instances where you're dealing with the best of the best, I can see someone being criticized for being technically proficient, but lacking in spirit (or however you want to phrase it). But even there, it's not their proficiency that's the problem; it's that they are among the best of the best, and it's not enough to just be technically superb--they need to be acing all aspects of their performance in order to remain at the top.

But on a fucking reality dance show, I just think it's ridiculous manufactured drama to act like anyone is at the level where "technically excellent" is such a given that it makes sense to criticize them for only being technically excellent.

Like, this isn't Black Swan, calm down.

Ack! I didn't mean to post my long, ranty comment in reply to your comment! Sorry! :/

No worries! You can post it again in the main thread, and use this link: [it's the only clickable located beside the date of your comment, looks like: (link) ]

Then again it has been a while since I last checked this, but I'm pretty sure the rules/format is still all the same?

I don't disagree with you, and I think they usually said something like "the audience is having trouble connecting with you even thought you're really good" in earlier seasons.

But this season...it feels like they're pulling for certain people, so they're making up stuff. And also, that critique came after a classical jazz number (with no storyline, just classic jazz)...which audiences hate. That's not the dancers' fault, so I was particularly incensed, especially since the dancer they didn't kick off was bad in his own discipline, and had been in the bottom the same number of times.

Right!! I expect some shady judging but at least give me solos and group numbers!

I honestly don't even know /how/ they managed to revive the show while vetoing most of the content that fans actually enjoyed! Like I'm assuming voting is out as well at this point? Hell, the whole point of dance for your life was to remind the judges/audience of what they could do! (and/or give the judges a chance to see who was favoured by the live fans) It was at the very least a nice sendoff to the contestant so they didn't have to leave after a terrible routine alone.
The group numbers I'm very surprised about. Like I never watched long enough to know, but did the get rid of the regular choreographers as well? My absolute favourite performances across the seasons where often the groups preforming together, so losing that is terrible. (I'd blame COVID again, but they're all already quarantining due to the reality tv nature of the show? I hate it either way;;)
Ramalama Bang Bang, I just searched for as it's stuck with me of one of my all time favourite group dances by far... actually happened in the second season- which I had no clue about before I looked it up!! Here it is: (just for old times sake;;)
