I don't watch this show, but someone getting criticized for being too technically good pretty much always pisses me off immensely. It's almost always just some ass-pull nonsense that the producers have decided sounds good.

In instances where you're dealing with the best of the best, I can see someone being criticized for being technically proficient, but lacking in spirit (or however you want to phrase it). But even there, it's not their proficiency that's the problem; it's that they are among the best of the best, and it's not enough to just be technically superb--they need to be acing all aspects of their performance in order to remain at the top.

But on a fucking reality dance show, I just think it's ridiculous manufactured drama to act like anyone is at the level where "technically excellent" is such a given that it makes sense to criticize them for only being technically excellent.

Like, this isn't Black Swan, calm down.

No worries! You can post it again in the main thread, and use this link: [it's the only clickable located beside the date of your comment, looks like: (link) ]

Then again it has been a while since I last checked this, but I'm pretty sure the rules/format is still all the same?

I don't disagree with you, and I think they usually said something like "the audience is having trouble connecting with you even thought you're really good" in earlier seasons.

But this season...it feels like they're pulling for certain people, so they're making up stuff. And also, that critique came after a classical jazz number (with no storyline, just classic jazz)...which audiences hate. That's not the dancers' fault, so I was particularly incensed, especially since the dancer they didn't kick off was bad in his own discipline, and had been in the bottom the same number of times.
