I’m confused. Is it a steampunk-y fandom and suddenly people who hate steampunk have come in? Or is it just any old fandom but for some reason all the new haters use steampunk aesthetic on their blogs or whatever?

I interpreted it as a canonically non-steampunk fandom (or with only a mild steampunk aesthetic) which has a lot of steampunk fan creations (fic, art) is being invaded by people who are anti the steampunk aesthetic.

But if OP meant antis-who-use-steampunk-aesthetic.... I don't know, I'm not even a fan of steampunk but that makes "steampunk anti" sound kinda like a cool sort of anti.

I interpreted it as meaning it's a not-steampunky fandom, when suddenly people who are antis but are also into steampunk have invaded it. Or it's a steampunk fandom, invaded by antishippers.
