Semipro fandom goes back a long, long, long, long way and I really cannot bring myself to have a problem with it. I don't think that it's fair to say that it makes you a parasite. Just because someone is making money from fandom, it doesn't mean that their motives are purely mercenary and unfannish. The two things can coexist.

I’m confused. Is it a steampunk-y fandom and suddenly people who hate steampunk have come in? Or is it just any old fandom but for some reason all the new haters use steampunk aesthetic on their blogs or whatever?

50 Shades of Gray is fanfiction written by woman... OP seems like a type of person to clap for Karine Jean-Pierre despite the disaster that were her news conferences.
Most of published SH fanfics were written by men because those books are old and more male writers published. They should be free domain now I think.

I have so many issues with this too, nonny. Like, it's not even the money thing in and of itself, it's the fact that fandom spaces, while continuing to decry capitalism 'in the real world' has basically embraced all its tents.

It's infected fandom to the point that even fans who don't monetize their works make a whole big point about it ("I'm doing this for FREE! so pay me in comments/reblogs/whatever!", like that's not the same thing in a different hat). And it's just like, can we please have one single space where our hobbies are not a fucking PRODUCT???
