What drives me nuts about that is how many people were like 'but the contract was probably bad, why couldn't Netflix just work with them to produce the musical,' as if Netflix owes anything to the musical girls. It's *Netflix's IP.* They *own it.* They don't have to compromise or 'work with' or give the musical people a good contract, because the girls making the musical are using an IP that they do not own. They even made videos showing how they took words verbatim from the show to make the musical! Netflix doesn't owe them shit. If the contract was bad then fine don't take it, but that means you don't get to stage the musical anyway.

THIS. Netflix was clearly okay with the idea of the musical if they offered the contract in the first place! They just wanted it done on their terms, which is entirely fair because like you said, it's their IP to share with other people at their discretion.
