Yeah, agreed. The thing about my OTP is that their dynamics are... Either a) The kind of people in your group of friends that would surprise everyone by saying "soo we have been dating for months" out of the blue, or b) Take ages to develop into "oh wow, we are both living human beings that get along well, dating is a possibility!" so common romance tropes don't work well or at the very least feel very awkward. And boy most fic feel so awkwardly ooc...
