What are your favorite fanworks to make?

[personal profile] scissorsevered 2022-08-09 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm mostly a fanfic writer, the written word seems to suit me best, but every few months or so I squeeze out a piece of fanart.

Though to be honest it's been months since I've posted any fic...

I tend to alternate between fic and podfic. They are different enough kinds of creativity that doing one is a rest from the other. Also... fic is about saying what *I* think. Podfic (if it's someone else's work) is about trying to vibe with what someone else thinks and convey that in a different format. It's good mental practice.

I've always wanted to make podfic, but I never found exactly what I wanted to adapt. It sounds super fun!

It is! Hard work, though, so I'd suggest starting with something <1000, just so you can learn the twiddly bits on something small.

How do you make podfic? I've never actually listened since it's such a personal experience for me that I feel having someone read it to me would throw me out of it! But I'm very curious! What kinds of fic do you do,?

Making gifs. They're pretty popular on tumblr and twitter. Not so much in the live-journaling atmosphere

I write okay PWPs, I guess. Honestly my favorite thing to do is headcanon posts, though. The Tumblr Tolkien fandom is great for that.

I honestly CAN only write. I'd love to master the magic that is drawing or painting, but alas.

I love to draw but I usually get discouraged pretty fast when something doesn't come out the way I want it too. Writing comes much more naturally to me.

I only write (though, like you, not much lately AT ALL). I used to do art (not fanart) way back in Jr and High school, but i just kind of lost the drive. I also used to make costumes, but I don't do that anymore, either. My biggest fannish non-writing thing is making pinboards with my bff of stuff that informs our own personal world-building.

The only thing I was good at, making GIFs. I made a shit ton on Tumblr.

For the most part I've been drawing fanart since I was 13 years old (almost 16 years now) - but in recent years while caring for elder relatives I have less time to draw.
However, I've been getting more into writing fanfiction, especially back in 2020 when lockdown happened. I also can spend five minutes or more writing in notebooks I carry with me throughout the day and type them up at night when I have the most free time.

In either case, I feel like I've drawn more for popular/active fandoms - and written for smaller to half-dead fandoms in recent times.

Also, if I ever have the time & patience - I would really like to try making fan animations.

I tend to bounce between fic and music covers. I haven't been keeping up with the fic lately though I miss it terribly and hope I finally complete those two 20K+ word stories. I don't like sitting on stuff too long.

Aside from fic, I LOVE putting together soundtracks aka fanmixes aka playlists for my pairing or my fics. No one sees them but I enjoy them.

I also really used to love making banners and icons for my fics or pairings as well. I still have one I'm really proud of! (Almost want to link it lol).

Fanfic writing is what I'm most comfortable with creating and sharing. Though it's been a while since I've written or posted anything too.

Like another anon, I create playlists for my favorite ships but no one sees/hears them except for me

Uhh... let's see.

Ever since I was a kid I love to draw and enjoy fanarts. Including pixel arts, fancomics and such. I suck at it badly even though I studied for ages (actual brain issues). So it's not what others know me for but it's what I like and treasure the most.

And I have similar feelings toward the art of cosplaying - I do it a lot and suck at it (indeed my trembling hands and abnormal sensitivity to contact lenses are struggles ...) but I still love the hobby and appreciate others' works.

FMVs and video edits are a close third. I haven't created any in almost a decade, even because the programs and nature of FMVs has changed a lot in the era of Tiktok but I LOVED to create and enjoy these. I was... kinda good at it back when being good didn't require expensive softwares or skills besides "hey this song fits those scenes / characters" .

Then... Graphic making in general, stuff like wallpapers and web layouts, I used to love making these. Not sure what's the present day equivalent though. Hmm. Wasn't very good at it, now my skills are very outdated but it was enjoyable.

And lastly fanfic. I don't read or write much, though. I am very, very picky regarding canon-compliance and grammar. I have been praised for my writing before, but being ESL, publishing fic means having to choose between publishing in my native language and getting 5 hits or struggling for 20 hours with spellchecking, both of which I dread. So hypergraphia be damned I don't write much lol.

As for mashups and compositions - can't make these but admire those who can. I used to make fanmixes though, guess I still do even if I don't publish them anymore. It's what I do because my FMV loving brain still connects characters and fandoms to songs but I don't express these associations through FMVs anymore lol.

I LIKE to write and craft (lil clay figurines/Polly Pocket-esque thingies) BUT honestly work just kills my motivation and it sucks. Most projects take a few days and I have a very non-regular work schedule and thus I really can only do bigger projects (or be creative at all) on vacation time and it SUCKS

I am fanartist, but I enjoy making playlists. Sadly I don't do them anymore, spotify isn't for me
