old nostalgic TV that isn't cringe

Inspired by today Pretender secret. What show you can watch from start to finish without facepalming?

Depends on if you mean just the media. Like, I love all of Buffy. I will cringe because it is a Whedon show. But it still holds up in spite of its shitty creator.

Babylon 5. Always and forever.

Deep Space Nine is the only Trek series, IMHO, that doesn't have cringy bits.

A few crime shows. Hercule Poirot, Murder She Wrote. Star Trek is facepalm worthy. I love TOS but I would't watch it with my non fandomfriends.

Oooo, yes, Poirot. I didn't know if that was old enough to count as Nostalgia. But it is pure perfection.

He seems like he's genuinely nice in real life. And he really put his all into the role, and it shows.

TOS both does and does not hold up well. I honestly believe it's a very strong TV show but the basic nature of being a TV show made before the 70s is alienating to modern audiences and it's more pronounced because it's SFF.

It's a bit too campy. Also that crocodile alien...

I think Golden Girls has held up amazingly. It helps that they were progressive for the time.

I watched a ton of The Muppet Show when it first was put on Disney+, and although some of it has definitely aged I think it really proves how great most of the characters are and how timeless the premise of "chaos ensues when a frazzled everyguy frog puppet has to wrangle a bunch of other underdog puppets with weird talents for the sake of framing the appearance of a celebrity guest who is probably too important to be performing here" is.

It's still a really smart and funny parody of variety shows, and a lot of the puppet effects are have aged beautifully

X-Files still holds up well.

Also, as someone else all ready mentioned, Golden Girls.

Seconding Golden Girls. I also don't know about "from start to finish" but not too long ago I found a channel marathoning several Quantum Leap episodes and they were all honestly much better than I expected considering how long ago I was into that show.

I also rewatched QL a couple years ago and was surprised at how fast paces and fun the episode are. The only caveat I have is Al's awesome shirts. They're a bit too 90s.

Hah, yes, actually I was fearing Al would be kind of cringe because, well... I did remember the gist of his character. But nah, a little flair doesn't really make it over the top campy.

Also I was rather pleased to see no nonsense in the episodes where Sam leaps into a woman like "oh no I have to wear women's clothing" "oh no, men are hitting on me" and so on. I mean it MIGHT have just been the episodes I saw, but it seemed to me he just rolled with it, like "well I'm in a woman's body at the moment and playing the role of a woman and I will do my best". Really sort of a relief to find out how understated those situations were! He was like, more concerned about "I have to learn to do this dance?" than anything else, hahaha.

I do not remember there being any mysoginy in any of the episodes. It dealt with mysoginy in quite a few eps though. There was also surprisingly horror like episode set in an psychiatric clinic.

Oh gosh yes. One of the episodes I saw on that rewatch was Sam leaping into a teenage boy whose sister was dating a creep and he acted exactly like a boy whose sister is dating a creep SHOULD act, despite not being her actual brother. I have some memories of him leaping into a woman to protect her friend from exploitation and doing so brilliantly in a few episodes too. Also lots of calling out racist BS, if I recall.

You know I'm seeing a theme here, progressive shows hold up to rewatch. I was going to say I wonder if that's the key, but TOS was incredibly progressive and despite the fact that I adore it and will rewatch it anytime I have the opportunity, it was not without a fair bit of cringe.

And yesss that psychiatric hospital episode. If we're thinking of the same one (electroshock therapy?) I seem to remember that one being one of the episodes where the preview for it did not end with "oh boy" but "OH GOD" and when they did that, you always knew next week's episode was going to be a pretty intense one...

The original Twilight Zone series is consistently really, really good, even now! There's definitely a few facepalm episodes in there but they're more just cheesy (the slot machine evilly rolling to the window LMAO) than straight-up cringe-y. Still deeply entertaining despite the cheese. I absolutely love it!

Agreed. Even the episodes that aren't quite at classic level are still worth watching, just 'cause the acting was so good or there were some great scenes or lines. That show really was an embarrassment of riches when it came to the amount of sheer talent that worked on it, in front of and behind the scenes.

As for other shows, "Frasier" still holds up quite well. Classic humor, again, a very talented cast and stable of writers... Doesn't matter how many times I watch those episodes, they will never fail to make me laugh :).
