(Anonymous) 2022-08-19 12:10 am (UTC)(link)In a lot of ways it would probably be easier for me to find stuff I liked if I was into noncon, because I think in a broad sense, what makes smut hot to me is a sense of a character or characters being out of control of themselves in a sex or sex-related way. And noncon is a very direct way of having a character be out of control. But the aspect of noncon that involves someone making the choice to violate someone else makes it a hard nope for me. Kinktomato, etc, etc. The rare instances where I've found noncon really hot have always been instances where the awareness of non-consent was removed somehow.
I can get into a scene where the dom is riding the sub and therefore controlling the sub's orgasm by bottoming, though. But in any case, the dom needs to have more control re: the pace and vigor of the sex, and I think that's easier to do when they're the one penetrating.
Yeah, if I were going to wade into a "the sub tops" scenario, this would definitely be the path I'd take. But again, I think this is much more difficult to do when noncon is off the table, unless you also formalize the kink.
I would be genuinely curious to read something like this, if the fic fully committed to the dynamic, without making it formal or noncon. But that's a fairly tall order, and I don't think I've found any fics like that for my ships so far. Maybe one day I'll write it. I'm not a particularly skilled writing, so probably not, but hey, you never know. :P

What are your thoughts on dubcon? XD Because I mean, sex pollen and heats are so popular for a reason! It allows that feeling of "I want this so much I am out of control" without the ill intent and violation needed for noncon. And if you can assume that the characters have pre-existing UST where they kind of subconsciously know which one wants to dominated/be dominated then it's plausible the sex they end up having in an altered mental state is laced with unnegotiated D/s vibes.
And yeah, noncon has a very different vibe because the aggressor IS in control and the victim isn't enjoying it at least on some important level.

It's worth a try as a writing exercise at least! And maybe other people would be interested in seeing that kind of dynamic pulled off for those ships.

(Anonymous) 2022-08-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)Haha, spot on, I love those tropes! XD
Though even there, it can definitely fall into "too rapey" for me sometimes. The distinction between feeling out of control and being out of control really makes all the difference for me. Or in the case of sex pollen, the fact that they have no choice is okay, but I get squicked if either of the characters is completely out of their head from the start. There has to be some sense of meaningful consent. A "Get out of here, get away from me, you can't be here, go," and a responding refusal to leave and insistence on helping--or something in that vein.

Hahaha, yuuup, this is my jam. I'm laughing at how much this is my jam, lol.
