Question for Americans

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
I just assume people are like this everywhere, but then I got to wondering - would this happen in the US? Particularly the bit about the doctor stopping to help?

SA The only reason I'm wondering is because of the difference in healthcare approach.

serious question: why do you think this WOULDN'T happen elsewhere in the world? people can be decent even in the US ffs

I believe many healthcare professionals would try to help if they were on scene. I'm not sure a doctor would take over if there were paramedics already administering aid, unless they believed they had more knowledge of the condition.

But this happened earlier this year:

I don't think doctors in the US are less willing to step in and help in an emergency than anywhere else. The biggest difference is that the patient will likely be slapped with a gigantic bill afterward.

The drinking and driving question was buyable because you claimed your friend had heard something somewhere and you wanted to verify. This is just bait.

Any healthcare worker (specifically nurses and doctors) who cares about their profession would NEVER not stop to help someone who is in need of medical assistance. That is literally the purpose of their job, no matter where they live or if the local healthcare system sucks ass.
Yo, we have got to start asking ourselves as a society why our minds drift toward selfish expectations/concerns by others. Not saying this as a means to try to shame OP or anyone. Just, it's striking to me that to question simple ethics of strangers is quite common and I think a generalized opinion/assumption of strangers can signal how we see the world as a whole. And maybe I am a bit optimistic in my immediate assumption that most doctors would stop to help, but maybe I am not as optimistic because it concerns me that OP is doubting the general goodness of strangers...like damn

Film/TV costumes you enjoyed or hated

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Favourites? Least favourites?

Re: Film/TV costumes you enjoyed or hated

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
For costumes, my favourites are: Pride and Prejudice (BBC), The Great Gatsby film, Sense and Sensibility, Game of Thrones, Poirot.

Honourable mentions for excellent knitwear: Gilmore Girls and the Harry Potter films from PoA onwards.

Special mentions for Star Trek TOS and Battlestar Galactica TOS for being iconic.

Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey are the most recent great costumes I’ve seen. Least favourite would probably be Sandman and the GoT prequel whose name I keep forgetting.

The Nanny had some truly iconic looks going on.

I mentioned Our Flag Means Death as a modern example above.

Star Wars DEFINED sci-fi outfits for generations, as well.

I have no idea if they’re remotely historically accurate, but I loved the costumes in The Borgias and Penny Dreadful.

More recently, The Ipcress File had some good 60s fashion.

Reign is a favourite - not for historical accuracy but for general aesthetic. To be honest, the pretty dresses are the only reason I kept watching for so long.

Also, to stray into music territory, BTS' Blood Sweat & Tears MV outfits are beautiful. There's a bunch of kpop outfits that I love actually, especially the ones that are basically stylized hanboks.

I really love costumes and styling in Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell.
Also I am in love with The Get Down costumes.
Anyway, I am Eiko Ishioka's fan, so usually go for showy costumes.
As for least favorite, Rings of Power is an easy target, isn't it?

Shetland is good for scruffy chic.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the BBC miniseries - the children's costumes are wonderful. As are the locations in the Isles of Scilly.

Granada Holmes. Victorian elegance which does not preclude fisticuffs.

I have been loving the kit in Love Like The Galaxy.

Beautifully made and, even if I can't identify the exact period, clearly done with a knowledgeable eye and a lovely grasp of aethetics. And all the hair-loopies are so satisfying.

I love Jane Austen/Regency stories but I hate that period's fashion. They look like PJs. No matter how good or accurate they are I just don't like those dresses.

Like it says on the tin: erotic scenes you really enjoyed, whether just because they were hot, or were important to the story/characterization, or both.

I always like the one in Titanic, if that counts as a sex scene.

The world's most emotional handjob in episode 7 of KinnPorsche. Adds to characterization, the chemistry is off the charts, resolves the main conflict of the episode. I may have watched that scene in the double digits. Shut up.

Salim and the Jinn in the American Gods TV show. Not only is it the longest and most explicit m/m scene I've ever seen in genre TV, it's just beautifully filmed and reverently spiritual.
