Work!
(Anonymous) 2022-09-16 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Work!
(Anonymous) 2022-09-16 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)I came into work today and the other coworker in my "department" asked to talk to me privately. She told me that the sales team had been approaching her to complain about me getting to wfh (not sure what they know about higher pay). That it is bad for morale. They tried to get her to agree that it wasn't fair. That isn't the part I am angry about.
They accused me of working two jobs. One of them tried to get the names of the companies I interviewed for (she didn't know them) so that she could call and see if I was working there. That seems incredibly fucked up to me. I want to say something to them but my coworker doesn't want to get in the middle of all this (they will know she told me).
But like...calling to places to see if I work there is fucked up, right?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-17 12:24 am (UTC)(link)I would pay them no mind. They are crossing a line, and I don't know why they aren't minding their business. I've never heard of such oversteps before. Wtf. At most I'd tell the coworker who confided to what they said to let them bring to HR and the boss. Pay those fools no mind, OP. Do what you're being paid to do. You literally did what people do when they like where they are but want more pay. And the boss responded accordingly. These people clearly don't know how to respect boundaries or mind their business.
I have certain coworkers that work from home. I don't ask any questions as to why or what have you because it's not my business, and that's clearly between the boss and them. I don't know what's wrong with that department.
Re: Work!
(Anonymous) 2022-09-17 12:40 am (UTC)(link)I also strongly suspect your coworker is trying to stir up shit and maybe you should ignore her.
You worked out a deal with your boss. If other people aren't happy with their jobs, it's on them to talk to their boss. Or to go somewhere else. If they have time to be whining because you have a better deal than they do, then they have time to be coming up with a solution to their own problems. But again, I suspect that your coworker is exaggerating or possibly flat out lying about this because she might be the one who doesn't like you working from home. (Obviously, I have no proof of this, but it just reeks of that to me.)
Re: Work!
And I don't know what people's stupid problem is with WFH. I've been doing it for years because of disability that went way downhill shortly after I got hired, but this last year at least two (possibly three) people who have the same job I do but full-time quit because they weren't allowed to work from home anymore, although they had also been doing their jobs from home during the worst of the pandemic. And so now we're way understaffed and the person pulling the weight of 4 full-time positions that haven't been filled again? A part-timer working from home. Because they won't allow anyone else to work from home. wtf.
Re: Work!
Twice it was my boss msging me "can you do this thing to a tool you've never used and which is coded in something you're unfamiliar with?" To which I replied "I don't know, but I can try!" One of them, I looked at it and thought it was impossible "but trying to rewrite it to be possible would be an interesting logic puzzle", he was like "heh, okay, never mind, I'll do something else." It was such an interesting logic puzzle that I was still staring at it after he gave me permission to give up, and thirty seconds later: "...Wait, I think I got this." And I did.
That's... kind of how my entire work week was. People asking me to do things I've never done before and somehow figuring out how to do them, followed by lots of gushing appreciative emails. It's a nice and much-needed boost to the self-esteem, and particularly nice timing seeing as I just asked my boss a couple days ago to bug HR about hiring me full-time officially if I'm going to be working 40 hours a week anyway (which is illegal if they don't offer me benefits, but... long story.)

Re: Work!
We're slooooowly exiting people who need exited (like the woman who came into shelter and then spent 5 nights out of 7 out of shelter), and cheering on the families who are finding homes (three down, one to go! No more 13 kids in shelter!).
After a MONTH, we finally had a staff meeting and things were actually discussed and talked about (even though the PM still has not replied to a single email in over a month), and hired two new day-shift people to replace the two that quit last week. Still don't have a new night-shift person to replace the one that left, but we have 3 night shift people, we're fine.
I actually went out and bought mop heads, since we've been asking for new ones for 2 months: they were so rotten from bleach they were just random, filthy strings that wouldn't stay in the mop, we had to TIE THEM to the mop heads. And when I told the Ex.Dir there was a receipt for her to reimburse for them, she's all 'why did you buy mop heads?' and I'm 'because...we never got any?' and she's all 'huh.....' Like woman, you KNOW none were bought, wtf.
But otherwise - going well! :D
