Returning shows

Yes, there are lots of new tv shows out or coming out. But what returning shows are you most excited about?

I'm really excited for 911 tonight! And FBI is tomorrow, L&O is Thursday and La Brea is next week. And American Horror Story next month. The other shows I watch aren't coming back for a long time.

Just waiting for the rest of Tiger & Bunny 2 on Oct. 7th :D

I don't really watch much in the way of TV. Basketball season is starting up again though, so there's that returning. (And if reboots count, I only recently found out Quantum Leap is being rebooted? I'm curious to see that...)

"Ghosts" will be back on CBS in about a week and a half, I'm looking forward to that :). Also curious about "The Good Doctor", to see how they resolve the way last season ended.

New season of Fate: Winx Saga dropped so I am excitedddd.

I haven't heard release dates for season 2 of Sweet Home or Alice in Borderland but supposedly they are going to exist and I need them.

Serial was my intro to podcasts. In retrospect, I hate how it influenced the true crime genre.

Trying to find a film director

So there's this director that I've seen mentioned constantly online but never paid too much attention because I'm not a huge movie person. But recently I came across something about his newest movie and remember thinking it sounded like something I'd like but I can't think of what it was about.

He makes sci-fi movies, I think? Or maybe horror? I'm not sure. I know I've seen comments calling them dark/fucked up, and I've gotten the impression that his stuff is kind of similar to Jordan Peele's?

I'm pretty sure he's young and I'm fairly sure not from the US. I don't know what he looks like but based on his name I think he might be African maybe? Or now that I think about it more, maybe Japanese? I don't want to type out what I'm thinking his name is similar to because I'm afraid it would sound racist, but it has a bunch of vowels.

I know this is all really vague and it's all based on the impressions I've gotten from reading comments about him, so I could be off in some aspects but hopefully someone knows who I'm talking about!

Not a perfect fit for age and name or nationality but the rest is bang on the nose for Darren Aronofsky, including the difficulty pinning down the genre.

Yeah, it's pretty vague. Ignore the director and just look up films coming out in 2022 and 2023, maybe back in 2021 too if you're unsure.

So I happened to come across his name ( completely by chance in a Reddit thread and looked him up and it turns out I was completely wrong about everything. He makes comedy movies, not sci-fi or horror, the dark and disturbing comments were just due to the subject matter of one of the movies, not anything he did specifically, as far as I can tell his stuff is nothing like Jordan Peele's, he's not from Africa or Japan, and the latest movie I wanted to see is actually a TV show.

I have no idea where I got any of the impressions I had.

Lately, I have this…fantasy, I guess? Of raising a kid with my long-time best friend and her husband.

Personally, I would actually kind of like to have a kid. But I’m asexual, mid-thirties, have no career qualifications, and none of my family has money, so it just wouldn’t be responsible for me to have a kid.

The last I heard, my friend and her husband were not 100% decided but were leaning towards not having any kids, which I totally understand and respect. Hell, I’m selfishly a bit glad about it, since at least then I wouldn't be the only one without kids.

But.

I know my friend has been struggling (with depression) for a while now. She feels aimless and purposeless. Our mental health struggles aren’t the same, but they are somewhat similar, and they run deep for both of us. Except that I’ve been doing a bit better lately, while it seems like she’s been feeling worse.

So the part of my brain that likes to spin idle fantasies likes to imagine that, if the three of us had a kid together, it would help my friend feel more grounded, without her having to actually take on the brunt of the parental responsibilities. Meanwhile I could be the stay-at-home parent. And my friend’s husband could be the primary bread winner (which he’s already got on lock anyway).

Their current home is already big enough to house a third adult and a baby.

Her husband is a really great guy who I feel like I could easily love in a platonic way.

And I genuinely feel like I could actually do a decent job of being the primary stay-at-home caregiver.

Obviously in reality it would be extremely complicated and the odds of such an arrangement actually working out and not imploding are slim. And it’s not the kind of thing that I would ever actually bring up with them (unless they gave me a seriously good reason to think they would be receptive to that kind of thing, but it seems highly unlikely that they would).

It’s just an idle fantasy I’ve been having lately. A weird and kind of sad one, I guess--though at least it speaks to how highly I think of my friend and her chosen partner?

People showing concern for me makes me anxious and in turn makes me irritated with them. For example, I forgot to bring lunch to work today and was too tired to go out and buy some. Everyone kept asking me if I was SURE I was going to be ok not eating that long. Yes I'm fucking sure, I've done it before on non-work days too, but your ceaseless concern made me feel like I was doing something wrong. And just because I'm young looking doesn't mean you have to baby me about my eating habits. This turned into more of a vent than a confession.

Character tagging on Ao3

I’m working on a fairly long, multi-chapter fic. Think a few tens of thousands of words. The majority of the fic is focused on two characters, the plot events surrounding them and their relationship. However, other characters appear in the fic in multiple scenes in which they are the focus instead, have a lot of dialogue, have some character development over the story, and so on.

If you were looking for fic, when it comes to character tags, would you prefer seeing something like this tagged with only the main characters and relationship, or would you appreciate prominent secondary characters getting a tag? Would you be disappointed if they were tagged in a work where they were not the main focus throughout? Is there a certain way you prefer seeing secondary characters tagged? I wouldn’t tag mentioned or background characters at all.

Really interested in hearing thoughts on this. Thanks!
