Is this a controversial take or something? Versions of this could probably apply to anybody who refuses to read/watch/enjoy anything but one particular genre of whatever.

On the other hand the number of people this realistically applies to, who don't read/watch/enjoy anything except one particular genre, is so few it hardly matters.

It's definitely a controversial take, at the very barest minimum because people who read YA will take it as an insult.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-23 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would they do that, unless as specified, they are people who read only YA and nothing else? How many of those people realistically exist here?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-23 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
They'll take it as an insult whether or not it makes sense to

(Anonymous) 2022-09-22 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends in what part of book fandom you are. There is definitely a pretty vocal group (of adults) that goes "Pls rec me books, but ONLY YA" all the time and spout stuff about how YA is so much better about diversity/difficult topics and not just "divorced housewife has to decide between kids and work written by a man" or full of sex + violence like apparently all adult books are. It's a bit bizarre.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-22 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the "YA is great because literally all literary novels published are about college professors having affairs with their students" type of people.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-23 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, people who read a lot of YA can get pretty defensive about anyone who criticizes their choice of reading material.

*Looks at secret*

I wonder why.

*Looks at YA books*
I don't.

As I said above, why would they do that, unless as specified, they are people who read only YA and nothing else? How many of those people realistically exist here?

If someone is critical of people who only read news articles, are people who read news articles going to be offended? I read news articles and wouldn't be offended, because they aren't the only things I read and I imagine people that read news articles and literally nothing else are extremely few and far between.

I see a whole lot of people reading things into the secret that aren't there.

Exactly. As the saying goes, "a hit dog hollers."

I read YA and I'm not offended in the slightest by the secret because I also read things that aren't YA.

You mean, people who read a lot of YA can get pretty defensive about anyone who criticizes their choice of reading material ? On FandomSecrets? Gasp! NO. WAY.
