The whole hate campaign and 'let's ruin amazon' before the show even screened has totally devalued every negative opinion against it as far as I'm concerned. If you go in hating it before you've seen it then you're just pushing an agenda.

So I was curious anyway and I'm enjoying it as are my friends. I think part of the problem is that no one knows what's coming because fans can't be superior about 'the book version' because they don't have a book - only a member of the Tolkien family deciding what is okay and the freedom to create their own content.

Do these haters also hate the Peter Jackson films because he made changes and didn't even include important characters?

There's several different sets of haters and some of them do indeed hate the Jackson movies for those reasons.

The Hobbit movies in particular have plenty of haters, and rightfully so.

I wish they'd picked up the pace a little, there is a lot of unneeded reaction shots that could be trimmed to give the show a better clip. The dwarf storyline is more interesting than the elf one, at least the elf storyline in the first episode. It is pretty good though.

Idk, at this point, the people falling all over themselves telling everyone and their dog how awesome the show is and how shitty anyone with even a bit of criticism is for "hating" it and how that's only because clearly, anyone criticising it is just racist, sexist etc. are equally annoying as the haters (excluding the actual racists, they suck).
It's Star Wars TLJ all over again- because of a loud and annoying actually shitty minority, it's not possible to criticise it anymore without getting called a racist sexist dudebro, no matter how valid the criticism is.

This.

So true. There's a lot of legitimate criticism towards this show and the stans are very tiresome.

Had the same experience with The Watch - terrible, shitty desecration of the City Watch flavour of Discworld books, but a chunk of the fandom decided you were a close-minded bigot who need to 'Be more Terry' if you disliked it. Thing is, you have to make sure you're not so open-minded that your brain falls out!

"Desecration" is strong.

It's a very loose and unfaithful adaptation, and it's also very bad. But the books are still right there on the shelf, as James M. Cain would say.
