Yep. And of course Facebook's "sort by recent" will keep turning itself off, last thing I knew. I got a browser plugin that will automatically switch it back when it does that, I hate it so much.

Twitter, I just... ugh. I could rant about how much I hate that system for an entire day at least.

Other anon here. I make secret/hidden lists and add everyone I actually want to follow. I have some obligation follow backs and support a few politicians I don’t really engage with.

I honestly don't know enough about Twitter to really 'know' about lists - I just read my feed. I actually am interested in 95% of who I follow (some follow-backs, like you say); some just don't post often, so I miss those, unfortunately.

With Twitter, I'm consistently able to get it to show me Latest Tweets Only, and I can't imagine ever letting it show me recommended tweets

With that said, I also strongly, STRONGLY encourage people to use lists on Twitter. It's a great feature especially if there are people (for instance, people who are annoying but also make interesting posts sometimes) or topics (for instance, world news) that you only want to see occasionally.

I don't have a fix for the things I hate about Twitter that will still allow the things I like about Twitter, sadly. :P

For Facebook though, there's FB Purity, which is a little buggy at the moment (there's weird stuff going on if you click links on a specific post without doing a hard refresh on them first, the apparently lone guy who created/updates the plugin has been working on it) but in general makes the Facebook experience SO less annoying. Lots of customization options for what you see and don't see in your feed or on the sidebars, blacklists, and forcing it to show entries in chronological order. Ads SOMETIMES get blocked, but then FB changes the way they display their ads and they start showing again until the guy figures out what changed and updates the plugin.

I've heard about that, but never looked into it too much. I don't see ads much at all on FB since I tweaked all my settings and things, and unfollowed a bunch of stuff (news/space stuff I now follow on Twitter).

Just lately, FB is being all weird like - click on a post to see the original/see the image larger, and then when I try to X out of it (upper left corner X) to go back to where I was in my queue, it randomly jumps to some other post somewhere that i may or may not have seen. Or it does that when I'm trying to leave a reply. Really weird.

I do all this stuff on my PC, btw - no phone internet browsing for me.
