(Anonymous) 2022-09-30 08:48 am (UTC)(link)The AO3ers are watching the zeitgeist shift beneath their feet, and seeing a new generation treat their precious perfect website exactly like they treated FF.net and reacting with horror as they remember how that ends. Love to see it. Welcome to the future of fandom, AO3ers, it doesn't include you.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-30 10:32 am (UTC)(link)What do you think the future of fandom is then? And how is it better than AO3?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-30 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)Seriously though: FFNet is not what AO3 is patterning itself on. AO3 grew out of LJ culture, after FFNet purged a ton of NC-17 fic (I was in the middle of reading one at the time, fun), and after LJ decided to purge a lot of groups that centered on porn, queerness, etc and also managed to catch up groups meant for actual survivors of real abuse. (I watched that go down, too.) AO3 exists because other websites decided that advertising money and pearl-clutching bullies were more important than their established user bases, which is why AO3 is not subject to advertisers nor moralizers.
Also, if you're so salty...you don't have to use it. FFNet is still around and kicking, despite the wild rumors.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-30 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)FF.net and Wattpad are right there. FFnet is still around, no reason not to use it if that's what you prefer. I think Wattpad is godawful in almost every possible way but its existence doesn't offend me, I just don't go there. I still read fic on FFnet sometimes, if something gets recced. Wouldn't post there though, because half of what I write is smut and I want a place I can put all my fic. Only AO3 gives me that, so it's my preference.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-30 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)I'm sure it will be very successful, easy to run, and won't cost a dime!
