"sucks for you to be too lazy and talentless to learn how to make art yourself:))))

This is the part that makes you sound like an immature child who's mad about being outdone by AI. Especially because OP isn't competing with you or other artist at all, it's just for their personal use.

'Outdone by AI'

Except that's not possible, because anything an AI creates isn't and cannot be art. It's nothing more than a visual equivalent of the algorithm. What's truly scary is that the line is so blurred for people now that we lack the words and perception to explain the difference.

Once, people thought that art created via digital means couldn't be considered art because it didn't involve pencils, paints, etc. What can and cannot be art seems highly subjective. Unless we're strictly talking about our personal opinions, I don't think it's useful to act like it can be properly defined by what tools a person uses.

Found the NFT Techbro.

There is one common denominator as to what art is, and that's that it is created by humans as an expression of ourselves. AI is literally just an algorithm. It is not and can never be art.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
the AI and the algorithms are created by humans

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
So are machines. Are you claiming everything created by humans is art. Actually think it through. Engineering is different to art.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
By this logic, self check-outs are now art.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, if you're going to go that route, photography isn't art either because you're just capturing an image that already exists, you're not actually creating anything.

Thanks for providing an excellent example of not having the perception to understand the difference.

Cameras are a tool that humans use in a creative endeavour. Ultimately all decisions about what shit, angle, lighting, focus, saturation, etc come down to us. And in the end, the purpose of the photo is to capture something the photographer wants to portray - a moment, a landscape, nature in action. All of the decisions a human makes is important and the resulting photo can be powerful. Sometimes the shot is opportunist and captures a pivotal moment in history.

That's as human as making marks with a computer, or paint, or in ash on a cave wall just because they look good to us or tell a story we want to tell.

AI - human sets parameters. Computer algorithm selects artworks created by humans to meld based on pre-programmed parameters. Computer churns out final product. Successfulness of program is defined by ability to do this successfully enough. It is manufacturing and about as much art as the machines in a factory.

It's not art.

SA No idea where shit came from. That was supposed to be subject

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
It still takes skill to make a photograph most will consider "art" tho. You're creating the set-up or noticing a good one that you manage to capture, which uh. Not everyone CAN do successfully. Like art.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone can take a photograph but my collection of poorly lit food shots doesn't qualify as art. If there's no artistry involved, then it's just an image produced with a tool. Which is what I think AI "art" is.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
You can draw that distinction if you want but in practice most people don't

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
To the detriment of the human race.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
SA Art is part of how we evolve socially and culturally. Computers can only mimic and reproduce.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
what bothered me is OP calling artists "hobbyists" who complain about ai making it harder for them to make money. it seems like op is just devaluing artists from the get-go. as for being outdone by an AI...you mean big publishers pay me 4k for a cover that can surely be done better by an AI? I don't think so. I'm just bothered by people calling themselves artists because they put some words into a computer (ironically, that's how a lot of people think digital art is made so putting ai art into the same category makes me very angry). if anyone can take any credit for a piece generated by an ai it's the people who built it and not some rando who thinks they made art in 15 seconds.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-01 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
Any human can create art. Even if it's only a two second scribble. It doesn't make them an Artist in the grandest sense of the word, but it's still art. An AI cannot create art. It's a machine. Anything produced by it is free of inspiration or passion or talent or skill. The person who built it might and the person operating it may have talent and skill but only the equivalent talent and skill of say creating Google and then being really good at using it as a search engine. That is not art.
