Did John Mulaney cheat? I only heard that his separation, divorce and remarriage was too quick a turnaround for people's liking, and he dated his new wife during the separation. But it's not cheating.

Yeah, there's no conformation that he cheated. He checked out of rehab in mid February, and the news of his divorce was announced mid May. He and Olivia Munn had their baby in late November, which, if she carried to term, would mean she conceived some time around early March.

So the timeline is certainly enough to cause speculation. But what the public obviously isn't privy to is what sort of communication occurred between Mulaney and Tendler in the months before their divorce was announced. The public tends to assume it came out of nowhere, because for them it did. But in reality, they may have seriously discussed the possibility of divorce before Mulaney went into rehab, then Mulaney did some self-reflecting while in rehab and came out of rehab more certain than ever that their marriage wasn't working for him. Or, for all we know, the divorce may have been decided on before Mulaney entered rehab, but they held off on the announcement because when you're famous, announcing a divorce right before one side goes into rehab is terrible optics for both parties. (Not that announcing your divorce immediately after one side gets out of rehab is particularly great optics--it's just not AS bad as announcing it immediately before.) *shrug*

Not saying Mulaney came out of the whole thing looking particularly great, but honestly, addiction is complicated, marriage is complicated, divorce is complicated, being famous is complicated, it's all pretty fucking complicated. And IMO a whole lot of people out there seem to come at these complicated subjects from a pretty simplistic and judgmental perspective whenever they're not the ones going through it.

And if part of the divorce comes from him realizing he wants kids while his ex-wife is child-free, then even if it hurts, it's right for them both in the long-term.

now, the thing with him bringing chapelle onstage, that earned my disrespect, but the divorce is something I don't really get an opinion on as an outsider.
