I loved this show :D. I know there's a channel that shows reruns sometimes, I like to go back and rewatch those on occasion.

I'm interested in crime stories involving both groups of people, but I still totally get this secret all the same. There is a sort of schadenfreude in watching those kinds of stories, yes. Especially when they follow the "They seemed like the perfect couple/family, they had it all." cliché.

The main things that bug me when I watch those kinds of stories are a) if they still get a slap on the wrist because, well, rich, and b) seeing these people having so many things most people would LOVE to have - a nice home, no money concerns, a good family, all that sort of thing...and they throw it all away for the absolute dumbest reasons.

I think part of it is that rich people can be all-out villains more easily. A lot of crime shows that are set on the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum - it often raises a lot of questions about society and why people end up being villains. And that can work in certain kinds of shows, but it does shape the kinds of stories you can tell.

I've never seen this, but from observations, there's clearly a disconnect of reality for people with a lot of money, (not everyone obviously, but priorités and leisure take different places when you live paycheck to paycheck and when you don't have to wonder AT ALL about when and where the money's coming in from).

Not to get all conspiracy minded, but I wonder if the rich just get ultra bored and do crazy things just because they can (thinking eyes wide shut level to the actual exposés you'll hear of). And of course, most people are fans of comeuppance story endings, especially when it's a person who can evade the law and operate as if they are above it because of their means and position.

Capitalist society keeps pushing the concept that the rich have money because they're better than the rest of us - smarter, work harder, etc etc and not the unfair system.

It's always fun to watch them be soooo dumb.

It's a good series and he's an excellent choice for the subject matter. If you haven't already, check out his novels! They're fictionalized versions of real crimes. The Two Mrs. Grenvilles was his first bestseller and it's about a woman who most likely murdered her husband and got away with it. Good stuff and extremely popcorn-worthy.

It's cuz they can afford to make their crimes extra fascinating. I mean broke fucks like me can't afford a fabulous dungeon basement to keep our captives because we're too busy paying for food and medical expenses. :P

I agree 100%

For myself, I think it's partial nostalgia/the animation and design just being prettier than what was accessible at the time (say DBZ). And of course, I loved the storyline. But Sesshomaru AND even his dad, Taisho, were both gorgeous. And Inuyasha was cute.

I really love this image choice (is this from the new show?).
