(Anonymous) 2022-10-06 05:11 am (UTC)(link)I mean. The words mean different things?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-06 05:35 am (UTC)(link)But also, when a lot of people say "graphic novels", what they actually mean is "comic books that are good". Which is silly, and also has nothing to do with the actual meaning of the term.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-06 05:50 am (UTC)(link)Exactly! People too often use this term to distance themselves from comics

(Anonymous) 2022-10-06 07:37 am (UTC)(link)I'm ESL, but for my understanding: novel, novella, essay, collection of poems, anthology, non-fiction, fiction, etc are all definitions of the term broader BOOK. If someone say to me "I'm reading a novel" I already know more or less what kind of book they're reading. I don't need them to tell me it's not a short story or a fictional book (which is longer than saying simply novel) nor that it isn't a self helf book or an essay. It's a novel.
How is that pretentious? I honestly don't get it.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-06 07:30 am (UTC)(link)This is the real question IMHO.
