Notes:

I've just been deleting a lot of random secrets that are recycling ancient FS memes ("can't unsee these unrelated pictures, would hit random thing, I wish this scene had ended in 'hot non-con sex'") and one person that makes a different secret about a certain actor every week trying to be as wacky as possible.

well then I hope the authors of the "fic" under 1k that I filter out are ok with not reaching much of an audience and getting fewer clicks let alone kudos and comments.

ffs I've read 1k-word smutfic where 750 of those words were "setting the scene," it's entirely unsatisfing let alone uninteresting. If that's your jam then more power to you but I will never read anything under 1k words. 700 words is not a good fic. That's a scene. Did none of you learn the whole rising action-climax-falling action in school??

Personally, I'd consider not having you as part of my audience a benefit.

Short-form fic can be pretty popular when done well, if you actually look at the numbers a lot of them get. You just either haven’t bothered to check and are making a baseless assumption colored by your bias, or you’re being willfully ignorant of the fact that what you’re saying is untrue. Which is also influenced by your bias.

So I think most of these authors will be fine, considering they will likely have a sizable audience and at least a decent amount of kudos and comments. And a great bonus is, as the anon above me put it, they won’t have to have snobs like you as a reader. Win-win for everyone.

“700 words is not a good fic. That's a scene. Did none of you learn the whole rising action-climax-falling action in school??”

Fanfic has the benefit of having canon already having set the scene for it. So judging fic by book concepts isn’t always necessary. And not every story, published short stories included, has a plot that needs “rising action-climax-falling action”. This is a ridiculous standard to hold all fanfiction to.

I think the only person caring this much is you my dude... Christ.

And yes I've read bad fanfic, I back click and move on with my life because bad fic doesn't even hit my 'shit that ruins my day' list.
