Favorite reality tv programs

Because I got a sudden urge to do some Project Runway rewatching. What are your favorite reality tv shows?

Mine are almost always competition ones. Runway, Next in Fashion (only 1 season, but good), Making the Cut, Great British Bake Off, Top Model (I know, but I just enjoy it), Masterchef, Top Chef, So You Think You Can Dance, Chopped, Forged in Fire, Making It, Halloween Baking Championship, and Iron Chef (both the original and the American version).

Mythbusters was pretty great for a while. Same with What Not to Wear. Say Yes to the Dress can be fun. Mad Fashion with Chris March was great while it was on. Tabitha's Salon Takeover. Tim Gunn's Guide to Style (I'd watch him in anything).

Used to love some of the court tv shows, though I've stopped watching them since becoming a lawyer.

Glow Up and Blown Away can both be really fun! I also really loved Is It Cake? and Crime Scene Kitchen (Crime Scene Kitchen is hulu but the rest are on netflix)

I don't watch a ton of reality shows. GBBO and Chopped are the two that I've watched the most. I think both of them are similar in that they're at their best when really talented contestants are working at the absolute peak of their ability under challenging conditions to produce something amazing. I watch shows like that, ultimately, because I want to be impressed by what the people on the show are doing.

And most reality television is not about that, most reality television is about drama and train wrecks and disasters. So I mostly tune out.

Have you watched Baking Impossible? You'd probably enjoy it - it's pretty much entirely about people producing amazing things under pressure. Like GBBO but with an engineering twist.

Does Taskmaster count?

Oh, seconded if it does. But I think it's classed as a panel show?

Otherwise it's just GBBO for me.

I LOVED PR and ANTM. I do rewatches from time to time. Which are your favorite seasons/cycles for both shows? I like GBBO but I'm not as into it as my friends. I've watched a fair share of seasons but I don't have any favorites. Would love to know yours still!
PR: Seasons 1-4 remain my favorites, though I hated a lot of it I still love season 8 because Mondo's iconic to me,
ANTM: Cycle 6 - loved almost all the girls, loved a lot of the runways and photoshoots, loved the final 2 and was happy Danielle won, would have been happy had Joanie won, their support for each other was the real winner of that cycle.
Cycle 2 and 3 were really fun too!!! IDK what it was, those cycles were just really peak ANTM though cycle 2 we know who should have really won that cycle.
I also have a really soft spot for Cycle 16, really liked a lot of the girls and the photoshoots.
I love a lot of the cycles TBH. Like, I can really binge Cycles 1-16/17~ fairly OK. I might start to give the newer cycles a watch. Allison Pregler made the later ones sound hilarious.
Random but my favorite model out of the history ANTM is Ebony from cycle 9 (one of my least favorite cycles, ironically).

When I was younger I loved The Real World and Road Rules. Haven't watched those in a long ass time. I would probably cry watching the seasons from the 90s, the nostalgia would hit too hard.

Was really into Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 for a while but haven't watched those in a long time either. My favorite thing out of the show was gossiping about it with one of my coworkers.

I was addicted to Catfish: The TV Show for a few years, would find myself binging it on a random day.

Too sad to know if Thrasher's King of the Road will ever be a thing again? I was pleasantly surprised at how into it I was with season 1 on Viceland. Season 2 was the Golden season. Season 3 was fun but I was still vibing with Season 2 LOL I purchased Season 2 on Amazon Prime and I still watch it from time to time. Bittersweet to watch now though. Still, though, a comfort show for me. Like a warm blanket when I watch it.

I watch the many variations of Say Yes to the Dress from time to time. I don't keep track of seasons though.

I also love rewatching 4 Weddings sometimes too!!!

I don't watch a lot of reality shows anymore. So I don't know any of the new ones, might recognize some titles. I watched A LOT of Mtv and VH1 trashy ass dating reality shows in my teens and early 20s. And just reality shows in general? Pimp My Ride!!!! OMG My brothers and I were addicted. My best friend and I loved Next and Room Raiders. Just so many...so...many, I can't even begin to name.

Escape to the Country - it's such wonderful nostalgia viewing for a Pommie living in Aus. I keep wanting to write Jane Austen crossovers, with her characters being shown around various country residences, but I'm foiled because I can never remember the hosts' names.

Also, The Yorkshire Vet. Also wonderful scenery, and I'm not just talking about Julian, though he does take his top off an awful lot. (Trouble it, it's usually to put his arm up a cow, but hey, I'll take what I can get.) They all seem so kind on that show, too, and the animals are cute.

Weirdest Bucket List Items

(Anonymous) 2022-10-16 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some thing you want to do before you die that are bizarre, random, strangely specific, or unique?

I actually crossed one of my weird ones off this summer. I managed to see the Washingtin Nationals play the Cubs at Wrigley Field. This gave me the opportunity to yell "Walgreens!" when the Nationals were at bat. Keep in mind the Nationals' old logo and the fact that Walgreens is headquartered in the Chicago suburbs. Yeah, it's really specific. I'm so glad I did it, anyway.

I'd like to learn how to drive a city bus, does that count?

I'd really like to learn to drive a forklift. So, sure?

I have a mutual who just quit their job and became a bus driver, so I guess the lesson is, never give up, you too can achieve your dreams

Like to visit Ruth Bader Ginsburg's grave and tell her that she was one of my biggest inspirations for becoming a lawyer.

Like to own property of some kind (whether house or condo or whatever) for the sole purpose of turning it into a kitty wonderland. With a cat walkway all the way along the walls and all sorts of other amazing things for kitties to explore. And then one room that is just a library for all my books.

I'd like to visit places in England that inspired Tolkien's writing. I'd also like to own everything Tolkien ever wrote, including the most obscure stuff that is almost impossible to come by.

I'd like to own every version of monopoly ever made. This is random, I've just collected versions of the game since I was a kid.

It's something silly, but I would like to go to a fancy townhouse/old amazing apartment open house. The kind that get listed by upper midtier to high end real estate firms. I live in a place with very old and ritzy buildings with ridiculous pricetags, and I would love to vo in with a friend, pretend we're engaged or together, both pretending we're in fields completely unrelated to our current jobs (or see if one of us can pull of older new money/overseas new money lol) that pay very very well, thus managing to afford whatever the price tag is. Just to see inside! And pretend!

Sorry for wasting that real estate agent's time, but I just want to glimpse where the other half lives for minute lol

I did do this once, but it was in my area, and not one of those properties I'm describing, and I did it alone, claiming a family member was looking to move/buy some property (not entirely untrue) so I'd give a look to let them know if it was something they'd consider reaching out for.

I want to go to Kyoto, get dressed as a maiko, and attend a tea ceremony.

Not a weird goal in and of itself but it's kinda weird how it was through FandomSecrets of all things that I learned I'd like to become more eloquent in my critique of media? So many of my secrets can be boiled down to 'I like this series because it gets me off' and while that is totally fine, at the end of the day it doesn't make for the most engaging of conversation starters. I don't know. Guess I'll go to the library tomorrow and pick up some film criticism books for some pointers on the subject.

I admittedly don't have an extensive bucket list outside of just generally working on my personality to even allow myself to have a bucket list in the first place. Hmmm... I would like to learn proper care of vivariums though, both for fish and insects. If I enjoy and keep at it, maybe do some related field work too.

I want to live alone without a single soul depending on me. It doesn’t have to be forever but even like a week to just be left alone and not have to be everything to everyone.

I want to keep goats. I'm missing a front tooth, have cats, keep chickens, have bees living in my walls, a house full of books, and vines and rose canes trying to eat my house. I have a woodstove and a cauldron and an herb and veggie garden and fruit trees.

I live in a rich suburb where property values have skyrocketed from lower and middling middle class to "knock down old tract homes to build McMansions" in the last 20 years, but my house and presence probably take a few thousand off the asking price of every other house for a block or so.

I'm almost 40. If I can make it to 70 (parents died in their 60s so idk) I'm gonna be the neighborhood witch and take my goats for walks with my long gray hair and my partial denture out and grin at everyone. Need to practice a witchy laugh, too.

(I was raised areligious and never got around to more than vague superstition. I just think it'd be funny.)
