There's a difference between "inspired by true events" and "based on a true story." "Inspired by" could be anything -- just a plot very loosely based on something that happened. "Based on" may change some things to enhance the drama or whatever but should adhere closer to the actual events. I am not sure where that line gets drawn, though... sounds like it's a blurry line in some instances :( Sorry it's so frustrating for you, OP!

yeah, this annoyed me about the blair witch project marketing. and everything people are doing with blonde.

also, there's nothing more satisfying than watching some piece of media, looking up the real thing and realizing it was far more insane than the media made it out to be. though sometimes i get angry at the filmakers because they're being real shit to victims like with Dahmer, or they're literally implying malfeasance like with Richard Jewell.

I thought he was perfect. He was the most obvious casting choice but he was basically lifted directly from the pages of the comic. They made some risky casting decisions that paid off (Death, Lucienne, Rose) some that didn't (Lucifer, Matthew) and some that were not risky at all, like Gilbert, and overall I think that was the right call.

This is one of my absolute favourite German Expressionist films. The off-kilter sets, use of light and dark, and slightly surreal creepiness *chef's kiss*

And I'd never heard/thought of erotic hypnosis, but now I'm googling it.

Nice to see another Matt fan! I spent most of summer 2011 getting 100% achievements on the Splatterhouse remake. It definitely had a lot of jank and lacked polish, but it also had a ton of personality and a sense of humour, both things that are missing from a lot of AAA games these days. I'd like to see another developer give it a shot some day.

(also, Jim Cummings as the Terror Mask? Perfect casting.)
